Finally got Kenzie home from NICU (Pics too)
First of all, thank you all SO MUCH for your prayers and everything for our little girl. I wasn't able to get back on the computer to give any updates so I'm just now able to do it now that we've gotten home.
Thank God we finally got our Kenzie girl home from the NICU. She couldn't eat for 5 days, they were sucking the gastric juices out of her stomach for those first 5 days. Then on the 6th day, she got to have a whole whopping 11 mL's of breastmilk every 3 hours. Then the next day she could have 21 ml's. Then the next day they said 50 but then gave me permission to breastfeed her as much as she wanted. Then she was finally on full feeds. We were going to get to move downstairs but then she started vomiting quite a bit so they kept her up in the NICU. Then the day after that, they were going to stop her IV fluids and her TPN and pull out her PICC line. Well, the PICC line wouldn't come out of her leg! It was streaked red up her leg and she had phlebitis (inflammation of the vein) and it was really REALLY hard pretty much the whole way up her leg where the PICC line was. They had to take her down to interventional radiology to see if the Dr. down there could get it out by passing a wire up into it and pulling it out. Well, she couldn't even get the wire up in there! She called me in the waiting room and told me that she couldn't get the wire in and that it was kinked somewhere. She then told me that a surgeon would be up to talk to me shortly because they were probably going to have to do a cutdown to remove the PICC line. I was so scared (and ticked) all at the same time.
So, the surgeon gets in there and starts looking at her. He ordered an Xray of her leg to see exactly where it was kinked. In the meantime, he took off the tegaderm that was on there holding it down (it's that clear bandaid type thing they put over IV's) and he started trying to see how stuck it was and what not. He started to pull on it with a bit of pressure and he kept pulling and pulling and low and behold.......the sucker finally came out! Thank GOD! No surgery for that. BUT, she had to be put on 2 antibiotics and have blood cultures drawn because it was so red and they were worried about infection. After 48 hours, her blood cultures were completely negative so they were going to let her go home the next day. Well she started vomiting again at 5am, 9am and 1 pm with all of her feeds so they did an abdominal xray to see if something was wrong and the xray looked great....the nurses were probably just feeding her too much so they cut her feeds back to not more than 3-4oz. every 3-4 hours (which was essentially what they were giving her anyway so I don't see how that was too much....but whatever). We finally got home last night at about 9:30. She had her 2 month vaccines yesterday before she left because she turned 2 months old on September 26th. She weighs about 9lbs. 6oz. now. and I think that is a little below the 25th percentile for weight. Gosh, I'm used to having babies that are in the 99th percentile for weight! It's different having a little peanut! She's LONG though and really looked big compared to all the other tiny babies in the NICU.
Here's a few pictures of her right after her surgery and a couple before she got to come home. Poor little girl! She looks SO much better now and started smiling a LOT (and purposefully) a few days before she got to come home.

Changed for good

Thank you Julia! We're thrilled to have her home. It feels so good just to be able to hold her without tubes and wires everywhere!
And that blonde hair....well......some new hair is growing in the front and it's looking a little darker! But I think it will still be blonde......maybe darker blonde! Who knows? It may just be oily cuz everyone likes to rub her little head! lol (we have 4 other kiddos besides her, but I think I rub her little head the most...lol...she LOVES it!)

Thank you! Gosh, almost didn't know who you were cuz you changed your picture! You look so cute with your little cutie there! I'm so not used to little-er babies. My others at 4 months were 20, 20, 22 & 18 pounds! They were chunkola's. I think Kenzie will be lucky to be 15 pounds by then. She's pretty long though. All my kiddos seem to be pretty tall....and by gosh they better since I'm 6 foot and my hubby is 6'1"! LOL
