Ok, so I am 16 weeks now. I gained 8lbs and I am a little concerened. With my first two , I gained 10lbs totaly with my first and almost 30 with my 2nd. Both of them I gained 3/4lbs the first trimester. So the pattern is similar, however, the next 4lbs came on suddenly in the last month. That bothers me. How much have you gained so far or if you already had your baby, how much did you gain and did you have any problems losing after your baby was born?

I'm a little over 19 weeks and have gained 2 lbs (I'm still at a -8 lbs from when I found out I was pregnant). With my twins I had gained 15 lbs at this point but that was pre-WLS (gained 40lbs total with them).
This baby is measuring on the large size of average and I deffinitely look pregnant despite the small amount of weight gain.

Why are you worried about gaining 8 lbs at 16 weeks? That sounds fine to me. Are you at goal? If so, you should be gaining 25lbs total, at least. If not at goal, than a little less. Hopefully you were still obese when you only gained 10 lbs with your first pregnancy?

I am not at goal. My goal was 140 I got to 160. My OB said he wants me to gain 35lbs. To me, 8lbs seemed high for only being 16 weeks. Especially when I have 24 weeks to go! I gained 4lbs in a month. That is high. I never gained that much before. Yes, I was 190 when I had my first son and I only gained 10lbs. With my 2nd son I was only 20lbs more, but I gained a LOT of water weight towards the end from swelling. I will continue to worry until after my baby is born. I don't want to gain too much and I don't want to go back to my pre-surgery weight. I don't think anyone does. I think it is a natural fear.

Your OB is absolutely wrong if he thinks you should gain 35 lbs then. I would try to keep it under 20, if you are not at goal. The 4 lbs could be water weight, but still, 8 lbs in 16 weeks is fine. Don't worry. As long as you are eating healthy and getting some exercise, that is what is important.
Of course, I am not a dr but this is based on all the research I have done for pregnancy post WLS.

I am about 8-9 weeks right now with twins and have lost 6 pounds so far. With my first presurgery I gained 60 and my second presurgery I gained 65. My daughter I think maybe gained 20 that was after surgery but I lost 10 before I started gaining so I got confused. LOL. Every pregnancy is different. I say just eat well and do all you can to keep active. I lost my daughters pregnancy weight within a few weeks. I would not stress about gaining some as long as you are doing the right things

I initially lost 7 pounds in the beginning due to food aversions and loss of appetite, but I'm nearly 22 weeks now and I gained 4 pounds in just this last month. It seemed like in the beginning, I couldnt gain weight no matter what I did or what I ate. My OB said not to worry about a sudden weight gain of 4-5 pounds or so. My baby just had a growth spurt and suddenly my belly is protruding, when just last week, people were asking if I was really pregnant because my stomach was still so flat, lol. Now there's no denying it.

With my pre-surgwry and post surgwery pregnancies I gained quite a bit of weight. Of course my last pregnancy was post but twins. I gained about 50 pounds. For the first two months or so after I lost a little bit, but my weight loss really increased once I started back to work too. The added walking has been great. I am still 20lbs from where I was, and once size up in  pants. But, I have to say that I really worried about getting the weight off. But now, it is coming off as it did before, so I am confident that all will be well. Don't stress over the numbers. Everyone has a different body chemistry. I used to wonder why, pregnant with twins and eating less than 2000 calories a day I still gained 50 lbs!!! I know people pregnant with one who eat like crazy and gain next to nothing. It's unfair, and unpredictable. Look at your eating habits, try keping food diaries, and see if that helps ease your mind.
