Well with my daughter I gave her her first name and my husband wanted her middle name to be her first and I was really upset with him! He wanted to name her after his mother and I liked the shortened version of it but he wanted it truly to be her name. So I settled for it as her middle name instead because I knew that all the kids and teachers and all would butcher the name so We named her Gabrielle Adiamontia, (the name means Diamond in Greek). I am glad that I did it as her middle name because people do butcher, she can't even say it and she is almost 5! So Spelling it would be out of the question as well. So I tell her that her middle name is Diamond to make it easy for her.
I'm gonna play devil's advocate here, Dee. Summer is a beautiful name for a little girl. Ja'layah, I'm not fond of. Does it hold a special meaning for you? Is it a family name? Maybe you could shorten it to Layah or Leia or Leah? That'd be easier to remember and to pronounce for everyone else.

It's prob hard to hear everyone agreeing with your hubby, but I think the same as everyone else. I think Summer is a cute name and Ja'layah would be very hard for people to get right. By the time she's in her 20's she might be used to people saying it wrong and be OK with it, but does she need to go through her childhood hearing her name said incorrectly? I think that would be a bummer for her. Also, just one more thing...2 middle names? I know people who have 2 and it's tough as well because of filling out paperwork etc. Can you remove the Kay? I also am curious where Ja'layah comes from and why it's special to you. I know coming up with a name is hard because it is permanant, but just remember, this is your kid. Who cares what I think or what others think. If you & your hubby are happy with the name that's all that matters (but if your hubby has a hard time saying the name, that's a diff story).

Ok Ja'layah I was browsing online for unique names and I came to like that name. The only meaning it has is that I like it and sounds pretty. Kay is mine and my moms middle name and i wanted to keep that middle name going. Summer is what my husband likes. So i figured I would put it all together and yeah its a long name but I do not think I could live without either name. Being this is my first child and not sure if I will have another one after this one.
Your hubby might be male, but he will learn your daughter's name. If you really like the name Jalayah but it is hard for your husband to say, stick with Summer for the first name (I think it sounds better anyway). There's probably no true guarantee the surgery will fix his ability to pronounce the name. I would also lose the accent or apostrophe on Jalayah - from what I can tell of how you posted to pronounce it, the apostrophe does nothing but add confusion.

In my opinion, I don't know about Ja'layah. But it's pretty, but, think about as she gets older and how their going to pronounce her name. That's all I gotta say. When I named my daughter, Adrionna, I was going to spell it like a d r i a n n u h but then i was like no their going to say her name like adriANNEa and I wanted it like Adrionna so I spelt it A D R I O N N A and her name is Adrionna Lynn. But Ja'layah, I've never heard of it before and I think it's really pretty, but think about your daughter's future. What are they going to call her as she gets older and works? Don't take this the wrong way, but exactly where did you get the name Ja'layah? Just wondering. Because, I've never heard it before. Not that I think it's ugly, I think its a really pretty name. My friend named her daughter Juniyah and people pronounce it oddly. And naming your baby is permanent and you can't go back. Unless you go do something that will make the people change her name. So, think about it. My husband, Jeff, named our son, that is due December 11th, '10 we named him Dakoda Andrew after his grandfather who died in '02. and it was hard for Jeff to go through his father's death.

And I know it's tough naming your baby because you dont know what to name your baby. its really hard. I had to go through tons of different books to choose the right names for my babies. and it was reallyr eally tough. and i didnt know what to do. so after my first baby Taylor was born, i began going on the internet and finding really cute baby names and naming my children after some of them and some of the children i named myself without any help.
Good luck!
