I can't decide whether or not to bank my baby's cord blood....

Having a baby is already going to be so expensive and I am a teacher which means money is always tight...but then again, if my child ever has an illness that could be healed from the extracted cells...but then again they might have synthetic/alternative versions one of these day...but then they might not....etc.

Any thoughts??? Are you banking the cord blood???

Unless you or the father have a history of stem-cell disease in your immediate family, it's pretty much a waste of money to bank your baby's cord blood.
There is such a statistically low chance of ever actually using the blood, why bother?
There a very few diseases that can be treated using cord stem cells. And amongst the illnesses that CAN be treated , the success rate isn’t 100% either.

Look into donating your baby's cord blood to a public cord blood bank.

I work with a bunch of attorneys and out of all of the ones I asked only 1 could afford to bank their blood. I figured if attorneys can't afford it, how is a lowly admin assistant going to? I wish I could, but unfortunately it just wasn't an option for us.

It's basically a very pricey bet with a low chance of payoff.

Banded 03/22/06  276/261/184 (highest/surgery/lowest)
