About our visit to the Fertility Specialist

So yesterday, hubby and I went to the Fertility Specialist.

Went in, they did vitals on me, hubby sat in the office to wait for me. Went into the room with him and sat down and waited for the doc to come in. I was very nervous but excited in the same sense to get this going.

Met the doc, he is SO incredibly sweet and understanding, very nice man. We discussed how my periods have been very irregular since I was a teenager. I brought him my medical records from the Obgyn so he knows about my history.

My LMP was on September 12th. He really wanted to get an internal ultrasound on me on the spot, so while my hubby waited, he went ahead with the ultrasound on me. He found out that I have 11 follicles on my right ovary, and 18 follicles on my left. This indicates PCOS symptoms. However I do not have the hair growth or any of the other symptoms, which is good. He thinks that the follicles are not maturing and getting larger and releasing an egg, therefore I am not ovulating.

He told me he wants to start me on Clomid. But I have to get a period first, so he put me on Prometrium, twice a day for 7 days. After I get my period, I am going to take Clomid from days 3-7. Then after the Clomid, I am going in for an HSG to check my tubes and make sure they are clear. Then after that, I am getting the Ovidrel shot to trigger ovulation, and they will also draw blood to check my Estrogen and LH levels. On the 14th day, I will get the insemination. I decided to go ahead with the IUI since hubby has a high number of abnormal sperm, and that will increase our chances. He is also getting his swimmers checked on Friday at the office, but the doc thinks he should be fine.

After the IUI, they will draw my blood on Day 21 to check my Progestrone level. Hopefully the first round of Clomid works.

I am on 50mg of Clomid. I've heard success stories with just 50mg, so we'll see.

That's all. I am really hopeful now since we have gone 6 months with no success, and only having 2 periods in 6 months (one was brought on by Provera!), I am hoping this is it.

The doc was rated one of the Top Docs in our area in 2008. So needless to say, this is the best news and feeling I've had in months. Also, tomorrow is our 1 year wedding anniversary (yep Halloween!) so this was a fantastic start to our weekend together. :)

Thank you for reading!

Thank you Kina!

I am staying as very relaxed as I can. In fact I think I am more relaxed now going through Fertility treatment than I was a few months ago. Everything is gonna work out the way it should. I just keep telling myself that. If it hasn't happened yet, it will eventually. Patience is key and that's something that I do not have otherwise, but I know it's important to remain stress free and have patience and it'll work out the way it should.

Thanks again. :)

Just wanted to wish you luck and baby dust on your upcoming events! Before rny (to get preg w my first) I had 70-80 day cycles and they put me on clomid (cd3-7) also but I didnt have the other things you will be up for...guess the clomid was enough to get me to ovulate....

Now 2 years post op...I'm trying to get pg was #2 and I hope we can do it the old fashioned way but they had me go for an ultrasound on Thuraday were I had a big follicle on my right side...however those dang Opk tests keep coming back negative, ugh!

Well I just wanted to share and I look forward to sharing bfp and pregnancy stories w you soon!!!!!best of luck...Courtney

Thanks so much Courtney! We don't HAVE to go through with IUI but we decided it's better to go ahead with it with better chances than to waste more time.

Good luck and baby dust to you as well. I hope you get your BFP soon. :)

That sounds almost identicle to my situation years ago...I have PCOS with ONLY the haor grwoth..nothing else...did all the meds youa re doing now with the triggere shot and then they did the IUI due to my hubbys issues..he had Hodgkins cancer and low sperm count and they were not "great"...it took us 3 rounds and we got pregnant. On another note, I think I told you this once already, so if I repeat my self sorry...after ahving the gastric bypass 2 years ago adn having my panni removed in may, I got pregnant by surprise in july...the doctors are in awe being that hubby shoundn't be able to have kids after the cancer radiation!! SO there is hope!

Yes! I remember you mentioning your situation before. Stories like yours definitely give me hope. I appreciate you sharing that with me. It makes me feel much more hopeful.

I have PCOS and was not ovulating regularly. I took 1 round of 50mg of clomid and we are now 9 and 1/2 weeks pregnant! I hope this works for you! Stay positive!!
