I am wondering if anyone got pregnant after surgery while on the pill?  Can the weight loss effect the pill?  I am just over four months post op, down 60 pounds since surgery and 69 total and on the pill, I haven't missed any pills but I did not get my period after finishing the pill had some bleeding mid-cycle and now I don't feel so hot.  I am kinda freaking out.  I would appreciate any information.  Thanks

Weight loss absolutely messes with hormonal birth control. Estrogen and progestin are stored in the fat and rapid weight loss can cause your hormone  levels to go all over the place.

Being overweight can also effect the pill, most GYNs don't bother telling their overweight clients that the pill are much more likely to fail if your BMI is over 27.
I would consider using a back up method of birth control and possibly taking a pregnancy test if you're still not feeling well just to be sure.

Goodluck!

If you're in doubt at all....I would take a test. I got pregnant on the pill while on my honeymoon in July. I lost the baby at 4 weeks. The pill is not 100%. I would just test to see if you are or not. Good luck!

Most bypass surgeons advise their patients to be on 2 forms of bc for at least the first 6 months after surgery.   Go get a digital and find out for sure.    If you are, Congrats and don't panic; plenty on here have had that surprise and did just fine.   If not, get yourself that 2nd form of bc and use it.   Calming vibes....what will be, will be.

It is absolutely possible.  This baby I am pregnant with now is proof.  I was told by my doctor that the most likely cause is because of the massive amount of weight I have lost.  Very surprising but I am happy about it.

YES surgery has a massive effect on the pill...
I am proof!!!
pregnant 1.5months after i had my panni done. My body didnt have time to adjust to the skin being taken off, prior to getting knocked up i had my period for almost 2weeks and kept spotting off and on...just like i did after gastric. WE did use 2 forms of birth control, and had to use Plan B the next day cuz the condom broke...
this little guy is hell bent on getting here and i am glad he is...=)

2weeks after I found out, i was reading something here on the internet about a study that was done that it is starting to be advised that Gastric Bypass patients shouldnt be taking oral birth control because its failing more than it is working. They are suggesting Mirena, or Implaraon? i think thats how it is spelled, because the pill doesnt last that long in our system cuz of the weight loss and how we absorb things now after surgery.
