BABY KINSLEY'S BIRTH STORY (with pics)
Last Tuesday 11/9, we went to our high risk doctor for the growth scan & possible amnio for lung maturity. She measured very small. It showed that she had only grown about 2 ounces in 3 wks. They said she had to come out. No amnio necessary. He felt confident that her lungs would be developed based on her biophysicals & that fact that she was 37 weeks. He talked with my doctor & they decided that I could deliver @ my hospital (YAY!). They scheduled my C-Section for the very next day. It was a wonderful experience compared to my first c-section. The epidural was a breeze. I barely even felt her numb my skin. My first one took 6 attempts & was horrible. After they opened my abdomen, I heard a lot of discussion. Apparently, there was a large area of my uterus that was very thin. So thin that they could see through it. They said that it was like looking through saran wrap. They were trying to decide where to cut my uterus. He was concerned that it was so thin that the suture may tear through it, when he tried to close & discussed the possiblity of a hysterectomy. Luckily, they were able to close up just fine, but I ended up getting my tubes tied. They said that any additional pregnancies could end badly. He also informed us that is was a very good thing that I didn't attempt a VBAC. He said there was no question that it would've resulted in uterine rupture. SO, Kinsley Christine arrived on November 10th weighing 4lbs & 11ozs. She is doing great : ) Because of her size, she had a had time latching on. So, I've been pumping. She had to get a few formula bottles in the hospital before my milk came in. I only got around 5cc of colostrum with each pumping the first 2 days, but have had no problems since we've been home from the hospital. The day after Kinsley's birth, I developed the worst headache. They were giveing me pain meds for my c-section which helped a little. When I got home, it just got worse. It was so bad that I started vomiting. Eventually, I was so weak & miserable that I had to go back to the hospital. They stuck me 6 times for an IV because I was so dehydrated. I had a "spinal headache". It happens when the epidural space doesn't close, after a spinal block/epidural & the CSF leaks out. So, anesthesia came down & inserted an epidural & did a blood patch resulting in immediate relief. They gave me 3 Liters of fluid. It took a few days to get my strength back. Today, we are wonderful !!!
So happy to hear that although there were a few minor complications, you and baby Kinsley (just love the name btw) are doing much better! I know how worried you were about her growth and the amnio...God works in wonderful ways! You're little one is absoloutely gorgeous and the twins- they look more than excited to have a new baby sister :) That's the one thing I'm so looking forward to- just seeing the girls faces when this little boy comes :) Hope you continue to do well and again Congrats on a beautiful little darling!! :)
