28 week appointment today!

Well I started off having an ultrasound this morning, which they measured the baby and said he is measuring the size of 32 week gestation, and gave an estimated weight of 3lbs 6oz!! I guess that explains where some of the weight gain is! I was angry at the doctors because they made me have a glucose test at 17 weeks, it came back normal, then today they made me have another because of the baby being bigger. I then was talking about the possibility of them inducing me early so I can go natural and they would not even talk about it, the doctor said they would wait till I got to 40 weeks then talk about a c-section if the baby is estimated to be large. I was so angry that they would not talk about a induction at 37 (CONSIDERED FULL TERM) weeks, but are so willing to give me an unnecessary surgery! THE ONLY way I would agree to that is if they would throw in a complimentary tummy tuck, and I am sure they would not agree to that! So i feel like the doctors are just not hearing me. I am thinking about as soon as I hit 36weeks I will start doing the natural stuff to get my body ready then hit the gym!!! HA That may be a sight to see!

I would switch doctors/practices if I was not already seeing the best in our state

Is this your first? One thing I learned from my pregnancies- NOTHING is planned and nothing goes as planned. EVER. LOL. Seriously! With my first son, I was told by my OB (head of OB) before I even got pregnant, that I had a very small pelvis and would never deliver naturally. I was prepared for a c-section. At 6 months I had to switch doctors because my companies insurance. I went to his partner, another older guy who had been doing this a long time and new his stuff and also covered for my OB when he was not available. He walked in and said I would go natural and that everyone should be given the chance at natural chldbirth! I asked him about my small pelvis and the fact that every OB has said that to me, he said a 12 year old girl gave birth to a 9lb baby, so I can give birth naturally too. OK, so I had to retrain my mind to thinking about natural. Well, I went into labor, naturally, at 37 weeks. After 36 hours, I never got passed 4CM and my son was in distress. What was our next move??? C-section!!!! Emergency C-section! My son had a severe conehead for 6 months because he couldn't fit through my birth canal it was so small. He was only 4lbs. Can you believe that? My 2nd son I started to go to on post doctors and you can see a different OB everytime. Some doctors said I would be given the chance at natural, and some said no way. My son was born at 34 weeks via emergency c-section. This one, they told me at the base here, that they do not allow VBAC's and I will have to have a c-section. They will schedule it for 39 weeks unless something happens before that and I need a c-section. Go figure. Doctors will change their mind, anything can happen. I wouldn't worry about it to much.

I agree with the past poster, however I wanted to add that your OB gave you an "estimate" weight of 3.6 lbs. This is not always accurate. My friend who just gave birth in October with her first has Lupus and also has gestational diabetes so she was seeing a high risk OB. At 35 weeks they told her that her baby was 6.5 lbs already! She still had 5 weeks to go! She gave birth on her due date at 40 weeks by being induced because of her health conditions and her little boy was a normal 7.8 lbs. Try not to get too worked up on your birth plan and what the OB says...things change last minute as well. You may go naturally on  your own at 37or 38 weeks and u may like a lot of us go till 40 weeks (which is a safe and natural full term as well) with a normal sized newborn. I wouldn't try to start labor on your own at 36 weeks with any intense working out, it's just not worth the problems you may have from it if this is not a normal activity you do. I would save my energyu for your labor. =)

We thought my baby was going to be very large....I was induced at 39 weeks and he was only 8lbs 3.5 oz. And there is noway unless medically needed a Dr will induce a baby at 37 weeks. Size is not considered a medical emergency. Plus not all babies lungs are ready at 37 weeks.

While I was in labor the head OB came in and "guessed" from all his experience, that my daughter would be 11 lbs, and started pressing for a c-cection if the pushing went on longer than 30 minutes. I was scared ****less.
She was born at 8'11. He was WAY off (thank god!)

This is number 3, I had both my babies at 38 weeks the first one was induced due to low amniotic fluid, and the second one, I went into labor at exactly 38 weeks. The babies tend to run big in my family, and my first was the smallest grandchild for my mom. She was 7'10", my second was 8'11, and from what I hear the babies only get bigger the older the mother is. It just scares me to death to have another surgery if it is not necessary, and all I know is even at 36 weeks with my son, I could not move because his head was so big and wedged in there (16"). I know they would not induce at 37 weeks and I would not put my baby at risk for trying to get him out any sooner than 37 weeks, but I am really angry with doctors that try to push someone to have a c-section when there is other things they can do. I was so joking about the exercise, because I cannot run now, let alone walk sometimes! Just a joke!!!

Well, you can always help labor to happen quicker! I went into labor with my son at 37 weeks and it was from all the walking I was doing. I had my baby shower on a Saturday, all my friends and family flew in for it and they were leaving on Monday. They insisted I was going to have the baby before they left because they wanted to see him! (They were joking but it still drove me crazy). They made me walk Walmart after the baby shower, we walked for 2 hours at Walmart then walked to McDonalds next door for ice cream! The next day they made me walk the mall , on a Sunday , from open to close (10am to 7pm). I was soo exhausted and swollen. The next day, we took them all to the airport and spend most of the day at the airport saying goodbye. I had to stop at Walmart (again) to exchange something and in the middle of Walmart , from all that walking, I started having contractions and ended up going into labor. LOL. Walking brings on labor! They make you walk the halls if you are in labor and need to progress! Some people sware by eating pineapples and other things. I never tried it, but I everyone has theories. I think if you want natural birth that bad, at 38 weeks, I would start walking and walking....it may or may not work, but it is worth a shot! LOL. Good luck!
