To Pierce or not to Pierce?
I know it's really early for me to be thinking about this, but wanted to get your opinions. I'm having a girl and was thinking about should I pierce her ears as a baby or should I wait till she's old enough to decide if she wants them pierced? Penny for your thoughts??
Oh yeah, and if I should pierce them as a baby...How old should she be?

I got my babies ears pierced when she was 10 weeks old. Did it then cause she does not pick at them. My parents did mine when I was like 5. I just liked having them done and its way cute. If she decides later to not wear them then thats on her. lol. I dont usually wear them myself either so its all on her for later
Good luck!

Don't do it.
Why put your little girl through that much pain for your vanity?
When she's older and can ask to have her ears pierced, that's a different story. Then she can be responsible for cleaning and care of her piercings and it'll make her feel like a "big girl"... In my opinion, causing pain to an infant who can't give consent just because it "looks cute" is just wrong.

If you pierce them as a baby (I did, and am glad I did it early), you should wait until she's had her first set of shots. Most places won't pierce them before 6 weeks anyway, but you should have the Hep B and TDAP on board. You should also wait a couple weeks after getting her shots so they can be effective by the time you pierce.
I kinda wanted to have my little girls ears pearced but hubby did not want to. Said when she wanted them she would ask for them. I am kinda glad we havent cause she is three know and is just starting to ask about it. I figured it could be a special mother daughter thing we can do one weekend and make a lasting memory.
I would say go for it. I was SO scared to get Sage's ears done because I knew it would hurt her. I waited until she was 6 months old. We went to the mall, took 35 seconds and now she looks super cute and never bothers with them. I went to the mall recently and there was a 6 or 7 year old in the chair. She sat down, started FREAKING out and never got them done because she was too afraid. In all honesty it hurts them less than their shots.

I had my daughter's done when she was 10 months old. She cried for a minute and then never noticed them again. That being said. I will NEVER have my child's (or my own) ears pierced with a piercing gun again. It is not that way it should be done. It should be done by a professional piercer with the correct equipment. With a piercing gun, it tears through the skin and causes damage to the tissue. Piercing should only be done with an extremely sharp piercing needle.
A few years ago, my daughter wanted her ears pierced again (2nd hole). I took her to get it and after a few weeks, they got extremely infected (even though we cleaned them like we were supposed to), and the scar tissue inside stared to come through the holes (there is a name for that but I can't remember what it's called). But it is common with using piercing guns.
If this baby is a girl, I will not pierce her ears with a piercing gun and will wait until a professional piercer can do it if she wants. I will be taking my 11 year old daughter to have her's redone by a professional in the next couple of weeks or so.
