To Pierce or not to Pierce?

I hope that I did not come off wrong.  I am certainly not trying to tick anyone off.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  I just think that people should have all of the information.  I do know that most professional piercers probably won't do small babies but I honestly think that it's better to wait and have someone who has had training in piercing do it.  Your best bet is to call around to different body piercing places and find out what they think.  I actually just emailed the guy that I am going to use (who's been piercing for probably over 20 years) to see what he thinks about piercing my 11 year old's ears again.

I personally would not do it, because I'd be paraniod the earring would get caught on a thread or blanket and rip the earlobe.
I see one year olds all the time with little gold hoops. They do not understand the art of "being careful" to avoid injury. Even if it's just a little gold studd, I'd still be anxious about it.

Chelle!! How are you sweetie? You know I didn't think about the fact that during sleep or simply napping she could get her earring snagged on the blanket or something...Hmmmm. so much more to think about. Thanks so much for the feedback sweetie.

i had jaylyns done when she was 8 weeks old.. she cried maybe 25 seconds.. no infection.. and we moved on with our lives... she doesnt mess with them.. she allows me to clean them... and they havnt got stuck on a blanket.. not to mention that sids studies have found that children that sleep with blankets are more likley to suffer from sids... if the next one is a girl i will pierce again.. and omg my son is cir****ized... shoot me now.

Hey now, I clearly said "In My Opinion" and I am fully aware that I am a total hippy crunchy momma. What you decide for your family is totally up to you, and I wouldn't judge you for your decisions, either. I always post really positively to you, and would never offend you intentionally. I just said that it was important to make a researched based decision, which I am sure you did. And that's a good point about SIDS, too.

no im not offended.. it takes hell and high water to offend me.. im usually the "offender" LOL.. i know you wouldnt judge.. your right.. its very important to make an EDUCATED decision.. not just a "omg she would look so cute" decision... to each their own in their choices they make for their family..  btw- i think your an awesome little your little lady,,, your crunchy.. im laid back ... 2 different parenting types that aim to do one thing- raise strong, healthy, happy , secure babies!

Haha ... "usually the offender". Good for you. That usally means you're at least making people thing. I posted something on FB this week that I thought was relatively benign, and holy mother of little baby jeebus, did I get it. Whoops. Anyway, crunchy, laid back ... prolly pretty close in nature. And I think we better get used to raising strong-willed, babies too. I don't think they can avoid it.

I have my own thoughts and experiences with this as well I would like to share. When I was a baby my Mom took me to the mall to get my ears pierced. They turned out beautifully in pictures. Would I get my baby girl's ears pierced now? Nope! At the age of 6 months old, I grabbed at my ears one day and swallowed my ear rings. My Mom freaked out and rushed me to the E.R. They did x-rays on me and saw them lodged in my stomach. Luckily I passed them without any problems but my Pediatrician told my Mom that they could have caused internal problems where I could have even needed surgery to have them removed. I didn't get my ears pierced again until I asked to have them done at 10 years old.

On the other side with circumcisions...we adopted our son when he was 3 weeks old. He had not been circumcised because of the biological Dad's beliefs. In the time frame of him being our foster son at 3 weeks old until he was 5 months old he had major eye surgery done twice.  I just couldn't put him through an unnecessary elective surgery or procedure after seeing him go through two surgery's that he had to have done. He will be 3 1/2 on Christmas Day and we have never had any problems with him not being circumcised. I am pregnant with a baby girl now, but we plan to have more babies later and if we do have a boy later we will not him circumcised either.

Hey there,

I say its really a personally choice... DH and I waited until DD who is now 20 months old was 10 months old. I wanted to get them done when she was about 6 months old but he wanted to wait alittle longer. I am having another girl via C-section on 3/2/11 and I planned on going for it when she turns 5 months old.

I havent met alittle girl yet who didnt want earrings.... Good Luck!!!
