SO scared right now...nurse practitioner says I have low hcg **UPDATE**

Went to get my beta hcg today to confirm pregnancy.  The nurse practitioner was very unsupportive to me and has me freaking out right  now.  She tells me the "magic number" for hcg at 5 weeks pregnant should be 1500.  And based on my urine sample which was very light, she thinks its going to be too low.  Then she started talking about D and C and all kinds of scary things...and I was so upset when I left there.

After an hour and a half she calls to tell me my hcg was 82, but started out by saying it was "borderline negative".  From everything I've seen hcg can vary from 18 - 7,350 at 5 weeks. Plus I don't really think I'm 5 weeks.  If you count LMP and assume that I have a 28 day cycle and I ovulated on CD 14 then yes I would be.  But this was a 32 day cycle and  ovulated on CD 20.  Anyone else have lower hcg levels at 4 weeks and everything turned out okay?

Don't worry yet.  I had two u/s and it showed nothing and had low hcg at first.  That was with two pregnancies.  I must say, they both are very healthy little boys running around here.  Don't let them talk you into a d and c.  Tell them you want to give your body a change to take care of it itself that way they don't take your baby without giving it a chance.  They seem to be quick to judge and I would personally find a different doctor now. Hope all works out.

I have 2 post-op babies.  My first one my first hcg draw was 82.  He's now almost 3!  My second one's first hcg draw was like 30, he turned 1 on Thanksgiving.

Sounds pretty normal to me!!!  Do NOT let them talk you  into a D & C this early.   Best of luck!!!

Thanks soo much, that makes me feel a lot better.  I don't even know why she wold suggest a D & C after just one blood draw...it was unneccesarily scary.  This is my first pregnancy...its just shocking to me that she would do that.  I AM going to find another doctor...anyways, I've got my fingers crossed that Wednesday we'll see good results.

First off, complain to the office manager about her. It is WAY too early to be talking about any termination, especially since this was your fist draw. The important thing to consider, is that they should be doubling every 2 days. Did they tell you to come back in 48 hrs for another draw? Even so, some numbers just don't dobule as much as they should. As long as they do not stop going up, or decline, then try hard not to worry.
Seriously, complain about her. What a horrid person. I had my level checked at 4 weeks, and all the lab tech said to me was "if it's over 2, then your pregnant".
(((hugs))))

Yes I'm going back on Wednesday for another draw.  Can't come soon enough.  So nervous but trying not to stress anymore about it because I know its not good for my little one.

My tests showed up really light for a while. I know the wait feels like forever! Good luck and I hope everything turns out good!

Normal HCG levels at 5 weeks range from 18-7340. Don't let the whack job tell you anything! I would find another provider for the duration of my pregnancy (if this were my situation). That woman has no business in the business. Not to mention, a "light" urine sample just means you're well hydrated, you can't tell low HCG by looking at the urine. Like a PP said, you should call the clinic manager right away. I'd even consider filing a report with your state's attorney general's office.

Well the office only does GYN anyways, not OB, so they would be referring me out to someone regardless.  I'm gonna look for a practice that has a GYN/OB and a licensed midwife and probably stick with them permanently.  I am very upset that she had me so worked up this morning, uncontrollably crying.  I'm okay now...but impatient for Wednesday to get here.  It can't come soon enough.  The urine test she took wasn't even FMU...it was the 3rd time I'd gone to the bathroom and I'd only been holding it for about 25 mins.  She said something like my urine test was inconclusive...and I tried to tell her ahead of time that it wasn't FMU. Grrr.

If they only do GYN there, then why was she offering her opinion anyway? I've never even heard of uring being used to test HCG levels. She had no business upsetting you like that.
