Did anyone else have this with 1 pregnancy but not with the next due to weight loss surgery??

I had this with my last pregnancy (4 years ago) and I am wondering if I might be able to avoid it this time around...

I have several friends (not WLS patients) with more than one child who had GD with one pregnancy but not with the other. I'm sure that being at a healthier weight would help reduce your risk... but even people at an optimum BMI can get GD.

I had Gestational Diabetes with my now 3 going on 50 year old who I had prior to surgery and 105lbs heavier ago. With this pregnancy there is absolutely no sign of GD. I was tested through a blood test A1C and all is clear. I'm so happy!!! So, yes the weightloss/RNY surgery had a profound effect on my not having it this time. Good luck sweetie.

I had it with my 1st..I was about 300lbs and insulin resistant with PCOS...I am now 2 years post RNY, down 160lbs....and have been on insulin right from the start of the pregnancy...My FSBS in the morning were ab out 96-100 and my diabetic doc is very strict and worries about a big baby so I am on insulin...no biggie though..all for the baby!

Are you a regular diabetic with remission since the RNY?  Were your glucose levels higher than the 96-100 after eating?

It is cool that you are doing whatever it takes for baby!

Best,
Leila

I am glad to know just because I had it with the last doesnt mean I will have it this time..  I am only just shy of 15 wks and my blood test was normal.. I assume they will still make me do the fasting test again which I am NOT looking forward to since I am really sensative to sugar.. Oh well.. we shall see..

I'm thinking that the sleeve and weight loss has saved you from getting gestational diabetes this time around.  Either way, don't worry.  If there does come a time and you do need to do something, you will, but not now, now you are fine.

Best,
Leila
