Ahh!  I am so shocked, just got married 5 weeks ago!!  What do I eat?  Do I take prenatals or gastric bypass vitamins??  I am anemic, how do I do this??

How much protein/water should I consume??

I am 29 and this is my first pregnancy!

First of all... CONGRATS!!!  how exciting!  a new marriage and now a baby on the way!

Call your OB and make and appt.  Then call ur WLS surgeon to let them know that you're pg.

Then continue taking all the vitamins you've been taking for ur RNY and add a prenatal vitamin.  If you're anemic, double up on your iron.  My WLS Surgeon recommends Vitron-C... it has vit C and Iron mixed together.  You can get it online or at CVS pharmacy.  Talk to ur dr about which Iron to take.  Regarding your proteins, it's a good bet to have 80g/day and at least 64oz of water.  You'll have to increase your caloric intake by 300 cals/day but your OB will go over that with you.

If you don't already have an OB, see if you can find one that has experience w/WLS patients being pg.  We're a little bit different than non-wls'ers but a lot of OBs just label us as "high risk" when in all reality we're not.  We just need to manage our vites levels a little differently.
Our little miracle baby boy is on his way!

A lot of those answers depend on where you are in your journey- are you at an ideal body weight?  Are you trying to still drop pounds?

I was advised to add a prenatal...need it- no doubt or a regular vit with folic acid.  I have done both and been A++ each time (and my labs too!) OH- and iron they may want to give a prescription one- have them check your labs!

You should drink the recommended amount as usual; you may find you need a little more.  Keep your body out of ketosis (rapid weight loss- just in case you are still dropping weight or had been for that wedding).  Eat as a normal RNY would a few years out... If you are eating well balanced diet, and near normal body weight- you don't need to add much at all.  I was told the equivalent of an apple and a small glass of milk.  No eating for two.  I would avoid breaking WLS rules because it can lead to food demons resurfacing (not that I am talking from experience )  Breath- and soak it in...wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy!  There are lots of do's and don't that are interesting- limiting caffeine, no lunch meats, no lifting heavy items, once you see the Dr they will give you a good idea of what you NEED to do.  I was 32 when I had my first baby!

I was doubling my iron since I am always low and they just did my 28 week labs..and my iron was real low so they told me to add the vitron-c....other than that, I am 2 years out of my RNY and had dropped 160 lbs, and had my panni remived in may and found out I was pregnant in july..UNPLANNED!! I ahve had a real issue with eating adn this is nothing that I ever would have done on purpose..but I went with it!! Good luck!

Hi there! Well, sounds like were in the same boat a little bit :) I'm 4 years out and in July I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I'm also 29. I got remarried over 2 years ago, but this pregnancy was beyond a surprise for us.

As far as eating- just continue to eat a healthy as well balanced diet as possible. I know that I myself could eat quite a bit more than the smaller portions after about 3 years out, so I wasn't fallowing the healthiest of diets. I changed it up quite a bit when I found out I was preggo though. Protein is important, but be sure to add in a mixture of good carbs along with your dairy, fruits and veggies also. I discovered in the late first and second tris that I could eat what seemed like quite a bit. It's definitely come to hault though and there are days when I feel like I'm right out of surgery and don't even think about eating. Just try to keep yourself on track and get as much water in as you can- my dr told me to aim for at least 64-80 ounces per day with other liquids.

I didn't have a nut to talk to about my nutrition, but there are a lot of very helpful women you will find on the board that will be more than willing to help in whatever ways they can. I'm sure it's all overwhelming right now, but hang in there! I'm working on my 33rd week and it's hard to believe how fast it has gone. I've had a wonderful first pregnancy (I won't lie I'm beyond ready for him to be here, but) this is for sure my miracle baby. Feel free to ask lots of questions and I'm sure the girls here will help as much as possible. And don't be afraid to ask  your OB questions. I was more than scared to get some answers, so I failed to ask a lot of questions I wish I had asked in the beginning. Now, I have a very open discussion with my doctors at every appointment and get my questions answered.

Hang in there and most of all- Congrats to you and the new hubby!!! Hope the next 9 months are happy and healthy for you and baby!! :)

My surgeons office told me to take one of my chewable multivitamins and one prenatal, you dont need to double up on the prenatals! that may be too much for you, 1 b12 and your calcium and i would ask about your iron, it may need to be checked every month to keep you level. Good luck and Congrats!!

I just wanted to thank all of you ladies for your helping me!  I am currently on Metagenics Wellness Essentials for Pregnancy which are a little too expensive (60 bucks/month) and i take one Celebrate multi in the morning.  I am looking into another brand of prenatal since these are so expensive!!

I am aiming for higher protein, my weight was up from Christmas when I found out I was pregnant!  I was rip roaring into my new years resolutions...I was 170 before Christmas, now I am 180 but aiming to steady my weight gain at least this first trimester.  I really weighed too much to begin with!  I never made it to goal, the lowest I ever got was 158 and that was before the tummy tuck.  I would love to get to goal after the baby comes.  I just want to see that 135 on the scale so bad!

Right now I am having a bad problem staying hydrated.  Did anyone else have this when pregnant?  I struggled with it before and now it is really bad...
