The flu........
I am so heated right now...so my sister calls me yesterday to tell me that I must pick up her sick daughter and bring her to the doctors office because she apparantly couldnt get out of work (BS) Well the kid has been running a high fever that couldnt be controlled with tylenol/motrin.. so needless to say they swabbed her nose and called my sister lastnight..she was diagnosed with the flu and I didnt have a flu shot this year and my 6 year old who was also with me at the time did not have one either! Im so mad because I told my sister, I am 21 weeks preggo and I cant afford to get sick, I told her I didnt want to take her to the drs and she then hung up on me and threw a big fit so I ended up just bringing her. UGGhhhh So I know that it could take up to four days to present itself if I do end up getting it. has anyone had it while preggo?
I don't know about being mad at your sister, but yeah... I've had it while preggo. i'm allergic to the flu shot so I get the flu atleast once a year. I even got the H1N1 right after my son was born! (that was the worst ever!) You're actually ok since your further along. It's early on that the flu can cause severe problems. If you get it you have to make sure that you're hydrated and do your best to keep your fever down. Your doctor may send you to L&D for fluids and there are some meds that you can take to shorten it. The biggest risks to both you and baby are some of the worse side effects that can come from not taking care of yourself... dehydration and pnumonia. If you think you're getting sick, tell your doctor and see if there's anything he can do preemptively.
Good luck, you might not get it. Our immune systems can be higher while pregnant. :)

I had a really bad flu at 17 weeks this pregnancy, and then I got a different strain on flu at 30 weeks. Just make sure you have Tylenol to keep your fever down because that is the part that they mostly worry about, and keep sipping water now. The second flu, I knew I was going to get it, so I started drinking 4 liters of water a day! I made it through with just about 6 hours of feeling real sick. GL, and I guess I would be mad at my sister too, but she did not know it was the flu that her child had, so don't go TO hard on her

That sucks! Hope you're still not sick. While it has been a few days since your post my advice is (should have been) hydrate!
I just went through it (and had a flu shot this year too) and staying hydrated was super important. Food we can live without for a few days, but when you let yourself get "dry" it's harder to bounce back so I would have started accellerating my beverage intake.
It's tough when you're peeing every 10 minutes anyway, but better than the trip to the hospital for an IV that I had to do on Saturday.
If you're going to be the defacto transportation for your sisters kids it might be worth your while to invest in a box of medical masks to filter their sick fumes. (Call me crazy, but I would rather fight with my sister over masking her kid than spend time in the hospital.)
Be well!

Happy and healthy! What more could you ask for?
