Wow, so sorry to hear this. Ok, did they tell you anymore than that? I mean who called you and how soon are they getting you into see the other doctor? This is the first I have heard of them doing a biopsy during RNY. Did they suspect something by your bloodwork? Please keep us posted and will be sending you good Karma your way. Jane

I didnt have a liver biopsy but I had some kind of pocket on my intestines. When I asked my surgeon if he biopsied it he looked at me like I was crazy and simply said "We do not biopsy". I wondered at the time if he would do it if he saw something that didnt look right or if he would just ignore it. I am sorry you have that diagnosis. Since you do not know how far it has progressed we would only be guessing about it right now. I know there is no use telling you not to worry because you will, anyone would. I too will send you positive thoughts. Hang in there.
Thank you all. When I had my surgery my doc said that my liver had nodules and he went ahead a did a biopsy. He told my hubby that 98% of the biopsies that he does turn out to be Fatty Liver. But I am one of the lucky 2% that turn out to be this. I am thankful that I had this surgery because he found it. I had been having symptoms, but EVERY doctor I saw said it was fatty liver and my liver enzymes were elevated. None of them did any further testing. I am just glad my surgeon did. The nurse called me to tell me the results and then said that she would call the specialist to get me an appt and call me back with it. So now I wait. Thanks again for all the kind words.
My surgeon routinely did liver biopsies when doing RNY (and the other surgeries as well, I would assume). Mine was fine, but a woman in our support group discovered that she had cirrhosis resulting from a bout of hepatitis a couple of years earlier. Other than her no longer being able to drink alcohol at all (even though that is not what caused the problem), most of the necessary dietary changes were already changes she had to make because of the RNY. There was something she had to limit... sodium intake, maybe?
Even though the liver damage is permanent, she was feeling better by the time she was 6 months out. Based on what she said, the treatment is merely treatment of any symptoms, so if you have not been ah ong any symptoms, there may be little or no changes other than those normally associated with your WLS.
