When did your "Honeymoon" phase end?
I am just over 6 months post-op and have been in a stall for almost 5 weeks. I have lost a lot of weight over that period and am kind of afraid I have hit that mark where my body says its done dropping weight like it used to. I know there are stalls around this time frame post-op, and plateaus that we all hit, but when did your honeymoon phase end?
I had weightloss freefall and lost 120lbs in six months or so - 20lbs more than I really wanted to lose because I started at a BMI of just about 40 so somewhat of a lightweight in WLS terms.
I feel my "honeymoon" phase finished at about the end of year 4 - when I found that I HAD to watch everything I put in my mouth and HAD to exercise if I wanted to continue to eat at the calorie level with which I was happy.
That is when I felt I was in true maintenance.

Kim, I'm fast approaching my four year mark, and hate to hear this - I've been maintaining fairly easily, but anticipating a crack-down in my near future! Thank goodness I've learned so much and maintained a presence here - my deep appreciation for all the vets that have gone before me! You guys rock!

Debbie, I think you're fine. I believe my honeymoon phase ended about the 2 year mark. I had been eating close to 3000 calories a day at that point so that I would not get any thinner and then BAM- I gained 10 pounds quick. Part of that was holiday eating between Thanksgiving and New Years, but I believe it is also when my malabsorption of calories ended. I had to cut way back on my eating. I'm also 4 years out and it has been much easier the past year or so. I think we are good

I think you are very wise to NOT be complacent because I think the stages really vary from one person to another. We all need to understand how complex and varied our bodies and our histories are and be vigilant for our own personal changes.
We also have to realise that after 40 our metabolism naturally starts to wane and then again when we hit menopause - we can't NOT adapt and stay the same because our body is continually changing!
This is most definitely NOT a one size fits all situation ... You are clealy intelligent enough to realise this and for that reason, I think you'll be fine!

I am 14 months out and blessed that I still have no hunger. I have lost 145 lbs and health wise am doing great. My weight loss slowed down drastically at about 12 months but I am still dropping about 5-7 lbs a month. I have to track my food to insure I am getting adequate amount of calories and protein. I am 5 lbs away from my goal. Point is, I didn't look at it as a honeymoon phase. It was and will always be a life style change. As long as I eat correctly I am hoping I will level off where I need to be and never get back into the eating habits that got me to the point of needing surgery. It was not a diet for me. It is the new "me".
I wish you luck on your journey, but please remember how you got here.
I am almost 5 years out and I lost 100 pounds the first year, and then the weight loss stopped. The last 30 pounds took work to get off and keep it off. I joined Weigh****chers for the support, let Jullian kick my butt every day with her excersize DVD's, and counted every bit I put in my mouth.
