Good morning, everybody!

I got through the whole swimming workout for the first time this morning. Last Wednesday, I cut back because I started late and was tired after not swimming for 2 months and Friday I cut out early for work. But today I got through - 1640 meters.

Weasel Coffee

I've never been to a coffee plantation, but my understanding is that they are a reddish fruit with seeds inside that somewhat resemble a cherry plant. The seeds are what we refer to as coffee beans and are ground to brew our daily cups.

The Asian Palm Civet is a small mammal native to a land mass region, roughly from India to Malaysia. Although referred to as "weasels", I believe they belong to a different mammal species. Apparently the Palm Civets are quite fond of eating coffee cherries. Lacking opposable thumbs, they are relegated to eating the fruit whole, seeds and all. In addition to lacking thumbs, the Palm Civets cannot digest seeds of the coffee cherry. Anybody who has ever eaten corn can guess what that looks like the next day.

It's unclear exactly how this started, but people began to collect the weasel, scat, extract the coffee beans, clean them (hopefully), and brew the coffee. Supposedly this coffee is amazingly good. At the very least, it is amazingly expensive. There seem to be three theories prevailing: 1) The stomach enzymes of the weasel break down the beans in a way that makes the coffee richer and more mellow, 2) The weasels only select the ripest fruits to eat and therefore the best beans, 3) this is all marketing hype and people are dumb.

I'm going to be honest and say that I cannot provide an opinion, because I did not imbibe. It just didn't seem worth the cost.

Today I am working from home, so a few tasks and calls, CrossFit, and we may have Happy Hour tonight but may cancel. I've been hankering to go to Octoberfest at a nearby German restaurant - tonight could be an opportunity if we don't have Happy Hour.

QOTD: Probably sugar alcohols. Over time, they have really started to bother my stomach.

Breakfast: Bagel

Lunch: Taco

Dinner: Maybe happy Hour maybe German

Have a great day, all!

Hi gang. Quick drive by. It's about 2pm here. Busy, busy week. I'll give a full update next week. We just left the Roman coliseum in El Jem. I had no idea there were so many different ancient Roman sites here, and how extensive they were.

Food is all over the place, and it's too confusing to track. Lots of bread this week.

QOTD: There are foods I'll always eat, and foods I'll never eat. I only make things off limits when I want to rein it in and lose some. And then I don't cut food types, just calories. And it's easier to cut calories by trimming sugar and fats than by cutting protein. But my bottom line is always simply my calorie budget.

Here is me, my brother and my daughter at El Jem.

Mornin' All!

Rally was great yesterday - I'm so glad I went (and no - I couldn't go to both the rally and class. Rally doors closed at 1:15 and no one else was allowed in after that, and my first class starts at 1:20). I made the right choice, though. Obama, especially, was fantastic. I hope to find a video of his speech online so I can watch it again. There was so much loud and enthusiastic cheering that I missed some of what he said. At least the crowd was psyched!

I've got another film discussion group meeting this morning. I'm also going to call Costco's hearing center when they open to see if they can get me in this week for a hearing test. I'm assuming I may need to get a hearing aid, but my regular medical clinic can't get me in for a hearing test until late January (and I made this January appt about two months ago! they are really booked up!) Since DH has to have his health benefit stuff for 2025 in by this Friday, that's way too late. The FSA stuff is due on Friday, too, and if there's a good chance I need a hearing aid, I want to put more than the usual amount in to cover it - or at least some of it. If they weren't very expensive, I'd just put the $$ in the FSA account to cover it regardless, and use it for something else if it turns out I don't need one - but those things are crazy expensive. Not sure I could spend the extra $1000+ on other things if I don't need to get a hearing aid. So...fingers crossed I can get an appt at Costco this week.

QOTD: I do eat carbs, but the good kind. It's not that I never eat the "bad" kind (donuts, cookies, etc) - but I try to limit that to special occasions or parties. DH likes that kind of stuff, so I make him hide it if he brings it in the house.

coffee with half & half

skyr with 2 T SF apple butter, thin slice of Danish rye with butter & cloudberry jam

1/2 pack of Loma Linda southwest burrito bowl on salad greens topped with plain Greek yogurt & salsa

protein muffin or protein ice cream

celeriac soup and some kind of protein

ex: too windy to bike and not much at the gym today, so I'll probably walk or do some cardio video

have a great day, everyone!

It's funny figuring out what things you can have in the house and what you can't...for example, now and even before WLS, I could have pints of ice cream and they would be untouched/barely touched so long they would get freezer burned...but have me bring in the TJ's hold the cones or an ice cream sandwich and I will eat all of them in 5 minutes and be sick Other things, I know if they are available to me, I won't crave them....I always have a good chocolate bar or 6 in the fridge, knowing I could have one if I want it, they last forever and I didn't buy any GS cookies this year because I still had them in the freezer from the prior GS season. They are still in the freezer, just in case.

On the flip side of that, I bought some jalapeño cheese curds from a cheese place in Wisconsin and I won't be buying the again. Apparently I've transferred the "the sleeve is a serving" approach from thin mints to the jalapeño cheese curds. no one needs an entire packet of delicious cheese curds. I have one left and it will be the last!

Good Morning! I feel you on the burn out and hope each day gets better. I have some frustrations about some process flows that I need to have a meeting with my boss about but I haven't found the right way to verbalize it yet so for now I'm making notes so I can set up a meeting. I am glad what you're doing for the plantar fasciitis is working and great job on the hitting your step goal.

QOTD: Like you, I attempt to minimize carbs whi*****lude the yummy sugary ones like donuts, cookies, pies and cake. I also haven't had soda since surgery. If I have things like cheez its, cereal, etc in the cupboard I have a "handful" here and there but of course those add up so unless it's John's I've been trying to just keep them out.

Good morning ~ We are at the halfway mark of the week! Yesterday was a blur of busy, that seems to be the way most of the time lately. Too much to do and not enough time. I'm nearing burnout, or maybe I passed it but I'm in denial? I can handle difficult things, people, crazy schedule, plus a commute but I'm starting to think its not worth the MH drain so I need to figure that out. My foot is 'okay' as long as I keep icing and wearing good shoes. I'm one bad shoe choice away from it coming fully back, so this is my life for a bit. All this to say that I was so tired/distracted yesterday after work that I forgot about my planned weight workout, ate dinner and fell asleep watching TV right after. Ah, but that step count - me marching around for the last 800 before I would let myself go to bed!! Today I have 2 meetings, reports and hopefully time to get organized and shake off some stress.

QOTD: Special occasions aside, do you eliminate or restrict any food or food group from your daily plan? What about specific dangerous for you foods? I had eliminated carbs for years, more like decades - or I tried to, and it would always bite me with an eventual binge. I work hard playing MFP food tetris to include my favorite carbs in my plan like potatoes and fruit as long as I meet my protein, fiber and calorie goals. It's made a huge difference in my food noise. Some of my most dangerous foods I cannot have in moderation are Gardetto's snack mix, Omega trail mix and cheese puffs. I'm can't stop eating them so they are banned from the house.

Accountability - great, 48 active minutes, 10,059 steps. I'm 167.2 today, 30 minuts done on the treadmill and a make-up weight/resistance workout after work!

b- coffee, legendary pastry

l- chicken, mini green goddess salad kit

d - pork chop and asparagus

s - jerky, apple

Have a great day!

not an option - otherwise I would have done that. No one admitted to the rally after 1:15. My class starts at 1:20.
