What would you do?

I am on my 6th day post op.  Have managed to get in 64 oz fluid and 40 grams protein for the last 2 days.  My bariatric coordinator has me on a 10-14 day clear liquid diet.  I can have jello, popsicles, broth, crystal lite, etc.

I asked the surgeon in the hospital if I could make a chocolate protein shake if I used water as the base during this stage.  He said sure.  When I reviewed that with the coordinator she said no clear liquids only.  Too tired and pained to complain I left it at that.  However what is the difference between powdered sf jello mixed with water and protein shake mixed with water?

I am getting sick of Isopure, broth and jello.  Would really love a shake... What do you think?

Your surgeon said yes. So that's a yes to me. Drink a small amount as a test, but I can't imagine it is a problem. The coordinators are usually giving rules generalized from several surgeons.

Don't ru****allow your stomach a chance to heal.  You are at risk for a leak up until day 14, clears are easiest on you at this point.  (this is what my doctor told me).  Before you know it, you will be on full liquids.

My surgeon said clear liquids except for my protien shake. I even made my protien shakes with milk. Congratulations on getting the sleeve and welcome to the losers bench!

It is so funny how inconsistent the medical field is on this subject.  My surgeon had me on pureed foods BEFORE I even left the hospital.  Off-hand, I don't think the chocolate protein shake will do any damage.  Plus your surgeon was okay with that.

My surgeon saysfull liquids from day 1, so I suppose I would just go with your surgeon's opinion.  This seems to be a topic where different surgeons have different opinions.  Who knows who is right?  As long as you don't end up with leaks, then it will not have mattered.  That said, you should just trust what your surgeon thinks.

Go for the shake but don't push further. Doc said OK so do it. I had clear liquids for 1 week, full liquids/purees 3 weeks, etc. They're all different. But surely a protein shake at 6 or 7 days is OK.
