I worked out at the gym on Saturday - weight 180.5
Sunday am  -180.5 - Did 6 mi walk/run
Monday weight 182.5

I am very sore, muscles feel swollen. Did I really gain 2 lbs or is this jus****er weight?

Tuesday, still holding at 182.5

Just a little frustrated. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep, workouts can make you gain a bit of water weight, which really throws your mind for a loop! I never count the ups only the downs on the scale :)

Yup yup. if you're sore that means you really worked your muscles.. and for them to get stronger, you need to rip them so they can build themselves back up even better :D  they're holding onto water to help themselves repair.  Don't be frustrated, just be proud that you got in a such a great workout!!

It was explained to me that when you have a really hard work out that your muscle fibers break down some, and thus allow them to hold on to necessary fluids to keep them healthy, and this accounts for the weight gain. As the fibers heal, they release the fluids back into the body's system for purification and removal.

I am not at your level of working out, but when I started increasing my intensity and went from 3 days to 4 days a week, this happened to me. My PT gave me the above explanation, and that the muscle fibers then tighten up again, hopefully more so, as we keep working out.

Shrug....I don't know.... I've been a sedintary fat person for so long, I had no idea.

I am so glad I could find this post again. THis happened to me this weekend. I missed a workout because the pool was closed so I thought I would make up for it by exercising for an extra half hour the next day. I was shocked when I got on the scale yesterday morning to a 2 pound gain. I was mortified! I worked so hard getting below 250 only to have it go up again. I mentally scanned my food journal for the weekend and saw no over the limit calories or carbs. I really worked to stay on plan this weekend because weekends can do me in. I wanted this week to be different.

However I felt sore and i felt the swelling in my muscles and remembered this post. I lkept up with my fluids and peed so many times, the scale is moving down again. Thank you for posting this. It saved me from despair!

I've found out that as the intesity increases in my workouts, the weight loss slowed.  I do best walking for 30-45 minutes at only about 3 mi an hour.  My loss stays at a 5-6 pound a week avg. and I'm toning up.  I carry small hand weights to help with the arms.

Yes.  I'm in the same boat at almost exactly the same weight.  I all but killed myself Friday working out, and I am still sore and holding onto the weight.  Usually, I'm back in the gym a day or 2 later to work out the soreness and sweat out some of the water, but I managed to do an ever-so-graceful face plant in my driveway on sunday.  Along with the sore muscles, I have a swollen knee, left arm, and *****along with some gnarly abrasions).

No worries, we'll both be fine although I look like I've been cage fighting.
