Apparently when i got my pre-op blood work they determined I have a vitamin D deficency.  The surgeon sent me a prescription for 5,000 mg of vit D 1x a week for 52 weeks. No other note or anything and now I am wondering how it will this effect my surgery on 11/15 and after??  Any thoughts??

Thanks

It shouldnt affect your surgery. Low Vit D is pretty common.

I had the same thing discovered right before surgery and the surgery was not delayed. However, my surgeon prescribed that I take 5,000 mg of vitamin D daily for two weeks then twice a week for another 4 months. My PCP flipped and said that was toxic levels and a battle ensued between the surgeon and PCP. The surgeon won and I followed his prescription. My levels are much better.

When I was diagnosed I had to take 50,000 units once a week for quite some time..
I felt so much better after a few weeks.. I really thought there was something seriously wrong with me..

I had the same problem. I think it is very common actually. A lot of people found out before surgery they were low on vitamin D as well. Im a year and 4 months out and my blood work comes out perfect now :) yours will probably do the same :)

Vitamin D deficiency showed up in my bloodwork preop as well. I was prescribed 2,000 daily. It had no effect on my surgery whatsoever, and has had no noticeable effect on me since surgery that I can detect.

I too worried about that when I was showing vitamin D deficency on my labs. I took the prescribed dosage and the surgeon said I may have to take it again after surgery. The one thing to check on is when to stop taking it before surgery. For me the surgeon did not want it taken within two weeks of surgery. Good luck with your surgery.

Yup I have the same thing. They have me on 50,000 units of vit D once a week for 12 weeks- just finished my first month. I asked about it affecting my surgery and she told me I would be fine and I'm scheduled for surgery November 14th. Don't worry, you'll be okay for surgery.

You'll be fine. Low D is crazy common, especially for women.
