Proper food choices
As my time goes on here on the OH forum, I can't help but notice how many people don't know or understand what protein rich and low carbs foods are. During my roller coaster weight journey I lost 130 lbs following the Adkins diet religiously. The diet recommended a daily intake of carbs of less than 20 grams a day during the two week induction period and under 40 after that. There are carbs in almost everything and carbs are calories, lots of them. For those of you who eat any kind of potato, bread or pasta product, you are not going to loose as fast. If you eat fruit, it contains sugars. Sugars are loaded with carbs. Even sweet veggies like carrots or peas are loaded with carbs. As soon as I fell into my old habits of eating carbs (pizza, pasta, bread or any sugars) I gained the weight back.
Lean meat like skinless chicken, lean pork, turkey or fish is loaded with protein and contain almost no carbs. Eggs and cheese are also an excellent source of protein without the carbs. Anyone thinking about having this surgery should pick up a copy of the original Adkins diet book or at the very least go online and find a list of low carb foods.
My surgery is March 20th. I hope and plan to be good to my sleeve and follow a good healthy low carb high protein diet once again. I'm sorry if I'm lecturing but I believe if you're having this surgery, you're serious about hour health. Why not know everything you can to make it works at it's best?
I'm also a bit of an amateur chef. I plan on supplying as many delicious low carb recipes as I can to all of you. Watch out posters! I'm getting sleeved and I'm gonna be here for a while!
Im serious about my health and love carbs.

I'm 8 wks out. My dr told me they didn't want me counting calories, just count carbs and protein. So I am on Atkins, I find that calories take care of themselves if you count carbs. I also find it much easier to stick to Atkins with a small tummy. Best of luck to you.
That's a lot of steam for a pre-op........
Not a slam...... just gotta follow through now.....

Great mindset! And very good advice. Do your research! But keep in mind there are vegetarians on this site that have had VSG so there are modifications to the post-op diets for them. Not everyone are carnivores unlike us!
Yes I too follow an Atkins type food plan. I am using Dana Carpender's 1001 Low Carb recipes cookbook. Add me and you can see in my blogs about the recipes I have tried. I don't cook as much as I like because it just makes too much food and I have to freeze it. But I try to cook once or twice a week.
I am doing low carb/Atkins type eating during weight loss then the Paleo eating lifestyle once I hit goal weight.
