Hi, im just curious how much weight did everyone lose on a 1 week clear liquid diet. I have two days left and I feel like I haven't made a dent. I guess from all my research and youtube videos I watched I I expected more, so im kinda feeling like a failure already. So, how much weight did everyone lose? And did you exercise during pre op diet or not?

I was on a 1500 calorie plan for about three months pre-op, lost 22 lbs.

I didn't exercise until 10 weeks post-op.

Everyone has a diff plan, it goes differently for everyone. Don't sweat it. Just follow your surgeon's  plan and everything will be perfect. Feeling like a failure seems like a ****ty thing to do to yourself. Your commitment and strength it took for this decision, how about feeling like a winner for that?

I didn't lose much, but I had been dieting for 3 months before my surgery.  I expected to lose a lot of weight when I did the liquid diet, but I lost at a rate that was less than the previous 3 months.  The protein shakes we were told to use were higher in carbs than my usual diet, so that might have been why.  It was pretty frustrating.  But all and all, I've lost 110 pounds in 6 months, so I shouldn't complain!

I'll give you some advice that I haven't been able to follow (smile).  Don't sweat the small stuff.  The big picture is that you will be losing a lot of weight in the long run.  But the day to day will be up and down.  (this is from an avid scale-watcher.)

Best wishes on your weight loss journey.

Carol

i was on a full liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery.  My average intake was 600-800 calories. I lost 18 pounds.

I did not exercise, but I continued my normal daily activities.

Ive only lost 4 lbs so far. I just feel like it should be more than that. I mean I still have two days, but I cant imagine much more will come off. I mean I lost 5 lbs my 1st week starting weigh****chers and I was actually eating food!! Just doesn't make sense to me.

You may have had more water to lose during that week of weigh****chers.  Just go with it.

a short 1-2 week pre-op diet isnt about losing weight.  it's about restricting stuff that inflames the liver (grains, carbs, oils) and also empties most of your glycogen stores in your liver (and muscles) along with their associated waters.  This reduces the size of the liver and makes it more manipulable for surgery.  You also lose some fat around the liver ... but really most of the weight you lose is water during this phase. if you arent huge and have a lot of muscle mass you wont lose a ton of weight.  also if you eat >20-40g of carbs preop, your body isnt likely to consume your stored energy which results in the weight loss.

exercise as much as you can pre-op even if it's jsut walking.  you are going to be laid up that first week at least and limited for a couple more most likely.  get your heart pumping

I was huge for my pre-op at 366lbs, and i'm a guy with (supposedly) more muscle mass.  I had a strict 4 shake a day plan with some low carb veggies.  I lost 14 lbs in 2 weeks of this.

Why assume something bad? You "feel" like you haven't made a dent.  So, you have probably made a dent, but you don't feel like it.    Do your best!  Period!

I lost 24 pounds or something on my 2-week pre-surgery liquid diet. The most was during the first week. Why? I started off at a really high weight, and I was holding water like you wouldn't believe. I'm amazed when people compare themselves to others. The body is complicated.  I don't know anyone *****tains water like I do. So, as a result, I can have huge water increases and huge water decreases.  So what should that #24 mean to you? Absolutely nothing!

I did not exercise during the 2 week liquid diet.  I didn't have energy for that.  The point of the diet is surgery prep. That's why I followed it without cheating. You are getting ready for something that is drastic.

Just do your best.

My preop plan was for below 60g of carbs and around 1,000 calories.  There wasn't a pre-op all or clear liquid phase.

That said, I lost 15lbs over two weeks.

This phase has none of he usual unhealthy stuff like chips, hamburgers, etc.  It was protein shakes, vegetables and other good foods that kept my carbs low.
