So..when did you first notice hair loss?
So..I am close to being 4 1/2 months post surgery..and from what I have been reading from the posts on hair loss..I am close to the time after surgery where it usually begins. I have been preparing myself mentally for this since before surgery in case this happens. I have picked out several haircuts that I like from magazines, started taking Biotin..even though there are mixed reviews if it works..take my vitamins daily..get all my protein in..I also only wash and blow dry my hair once a week to avoid frequent pulling and breakage..and use a dry spray shampoo during the week and wear my hair in a loose ponytail. Even with all these precautions I know hair loss can still occur.
I have noticed over the last couple of weeks..that there seems to be more hair in the bathtub after I wash and rinse..maybe some slight loss around the hairline..not sure. Wondering if I'm hypersensitive and looking for loss and over analyzing. In any case..even though I won't be overjoyed with the hair loss..I'm ready..I think..lol
My question is for members who have lost or losing their hair..where did you first notice the hair loss occurring? Was it along your scalp..hairline? How much hair did you start losing at the beginning? Everyone's experience may be different..although all information is helpful :-)
Thanks.
I started losing a little hair around month 4. I seem to just be losing it a little all over, but not bad at all. It's about 3 times what I'd normally lose anyway. I'm at 7 months now and the loss is slowing down a lot. I never would have even noticed the hair loss if I wasn't pulling it out of my brush and the drain in the tub.

I had is start at about 5 weeks post op (I'm such a keener!). I had complications and I think it sped everything up. It seemed over two weeks I lost half my hair from all over. I don't have any bald patches or anything. Thankfully I was born with an obnoxiously thick head of hair so now it's more "normal" head of hair. It's still falling out though so I don't know when it will end.
Yesterday was the first day I got in full calories and a substantial amount of fluid (I'm 8 weeks out). I now have to work on lowering carbs and upping protein.
But of course I'm not the norm because of my complications. I just got my haircut and it did wonders for making it look better and making me feel better.
Good luck, maybe you won't have a big hair loss...not everyone does!
Mine started at 3 months..and it's still going on at almost 4 months out. The hair loss is all over..and a few times in the shower, I pulled down on my hair to get the loose strands and big chunks came out. Eep!
Fortunately I have thick hair. The hair loss that is occurring right now is as a result of my surgery some 3 months back. I've had it happen before with rapid weight loss due to stress as well as when I had both my children. It's hair, it'll grow back.

Hi,
I noticed the hair loss starting just before three month post surgery. It wasn't subtle. There was lots of hair in my comb and brush whenever I combed my hair. It continued thru the 5th or 6th month. By then, you could see my scalp from the front and top of my head. I had to use a body-building muse, and blow dry my hair for about 3 months to cover it. I think the hair started growing in again around month 8, because now at 9 months, I have a ton of 1 to 1.5 inch hair sticking straight up! It looks silly, but I am just so happy to see it.
I'd take the fact that you have not seen much hair loss yet as a good sign. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones that doesn't have to deal with this.
best wishes,
Carol
