New on the forum!
Hi everyone! My name is Molly and Im still in the pre op stages for VSG. I received my referral for the surgeon of my dreams from my PCP, and Im going to the seminar the hospital he works through is doing on the 28th.
I have never been a thin person. From the time I was born I kept gaining weight and growing. By the time I was two I was considered obese. I have been off and on diets since I was 6 years old. I am the "fat one" of the family. At my highest weight I was 280 pounds and Im now 245. I was almost 220, but the weight is creeping back up hence my decision to get WLS. When I was 18 my dad offered to pay for the band and I really didnt think I was ready for that. Now at almost 27 Im at that point in my life where I think its necessary. I have pretty advanced arthritis in my knees and I have PCOS.
I also gave up meat about a month ago. Im really liking the lifestyle associated with no meat, (still eating gelatin, eggs, and dairy) but with my sleeve dunno if I can still live that lifestyle. Once I get my surgery I plan on being completely pure, no sugar, no refined flours, no white flour, and still no meat if possible. I also plan on living an organic lifestyle.
Thanks again for reading and I hope to meet some cool people :)
Welcome! I think there is someone on this forum who is vegan-think she posts in the daily "whatcha eating vsgers" topic. Take a look or search for past posts about vegetarian or vegan after wls. I personally think it would be hard to get the protein in-but I am definitely not familiar with the options.
Good luck!

Good luck on your journey! I personally think without meat it would be tough but some manage to do it. Do you eat chicken or fish/seafood? If it is just red meat that you have excluded then its definitely doable but if it includes chicken and fish then I would find it hard to get the recommended protein from vegan sources and shakes. Once I stopped drinking protein shakes meat products and eggs are my best friends. Together with greek yogurt, cottage cheese and fishy stuff.

Being vegetarian on the VSG diet seems like quite a challenge, but I'm sure you'll figure it out :)
