It really depends on your area.  I had to meet with a psychologist for about an hour and then had to take a battery of tests, 3 or 4 I believe.  This is fairly common.

One of the tests was over 500 questions that covers everything from paranoia to suicidal thoughts.

You should be fine.

Had Psych Evaluation 2 weeks ago.  Sat with the Dr. for about 70 min.  Then had to take a 550 question test.  Was there for about 2.5 hours.  Saw him for my follow-up this past Mon.  That took 10 minutes.  He said I was well adjusted (little does he know ) told me he cleared me for surgery and I was out the door!

I did not have one.  Neither my insurance (United Healthcare) nor my surgeon required it.

I have United Healthcare and a psych eval was the one thing they did require.  So I'm sure it depends on where you are and what form or UHC you've got!

I was at my first appointment for about 2-2 1/2 hours. Most of that time was spent taking the 500+ question "test", where it will ask you questions about everything. The same question will be asked a few different ways to ensure that 1) you have a harder time "cheating the test" and 2) to really get an accurate reading of your personality. The time spent with the Dr. was him asking questions about my weight history, why I have decided to have the surgery, what my expatations were with the surgery, what my home life was like (who I lived with, their ages, etc.) and what my daily stressors are. It is really nothing to fret over. I have met with him 2 times since, just as follow-ups while I was going through my 6 month diet program, and those lasted less than 10 minutes.

Mine was pretty basic.  I didn't have to take a test, the guy just asked me questions to make sure I was of sound mind.  I'm glad he's not my actual therapist :P

I had right mine right after a weigh in. I had quit smoking and had gained 7 lbs. I was upset about the gain and kept crying through the psych eval. Needless to say, she gave me homework and  made me come back for another session. I was mad because they said my insurance would not cover the 2nd session. I felt like I was being punished for successfully quitting smoking. When I went back the 2nd time, I was scared to be honest about my feelings. I just answered all her questions saying what I thought she wanted to hear not my true feelings. Anyway, I passed!
