I had my surgery on Dec 8th. I definitely needed a week off but I took 2 weeks off because I needed more rest and plus I needed to take time out for myself to get my head thinking straight as to what to do as far as taking in enough liquids and walking more. If you can, I would take two weeks off. But if you have a desk job,, you probably could go back in middle of second week. This is my opinion.  Good luck with your surgery!! Just remember to sip and walk ALOT...

I would at least take two weeks off. I know everyone is different as far as how they recover but better to be safe than sorry.

I haven't had surgery yet. I've been told two weeks is average. Luckily for me, my surgery is in Mexico & I won't be home until 6 days after. The following week is my spring break, so I won't have as much to do. I will probably go in to my office just to check mail and bring home things to do if I have the energy.

If you work in a sedentary setting, you might be able to get by with a week or two. If you have to move around a lot, it might take longer - you will need to rest when you're tired and take breaks if you're in pain.

I think most people take at least a week off, some more.  I was feeling pretty chipper by 5 days after surgery, but I also work part-time from home, so I was able to ease back into work.  I was tired for many weeks after surgery, but I'm also older and that might have affected my recovery.

best wishes,

Carol

I think two weeks is pretty standard. I had surgery on Monday and I returned to my work at home job on Friday. It was a mistake. I was physically but not mentally ready. I had some lasting mental effects from the anesthesia that didn't clear until about day 10 post op. Take two weeks if you can, longer if you have a physical job.

First surgery ever. I had mental foginess from the anesthesia. Things that was normally easy were much harder. I also made several mistakes I would not have normally made. No depression or anything like that.

I took 4 weeks but had a bunch of complications that pushed me out to almost 6 weeks.  I really needed the extra time.  Everyone is different.  I say plan for the worst which is 6 weeks.  In my case I used FMLA and STD
