Drop in weight loss rate... is this normal?

Hi All!

This week I am officially 2 months post-op and I'm feeling fantastic! My blood pressure is back to normal and my back doesn't hurt anymore!

I am currently eating around 700kcal a day and hitting all of my protein goals. I'm a religious food tracker which definitely helps. Exercise is a bit lower the last two weeks since I have returned to work but only by about 40mins/week.

Anyways when starting this process I was a very large lady at 390lbs. Pre-op I lost 28lbs, month one I lost 25 and month two I lost 11. I guess my concern is the 11 after losing so much so fast initally. Is it normal for everything to slow down this much?

I have a goal of -100lbs total by the spring and want to know if that is realistic. I have a wedding dress to shop for. Lol

That sounds like a very realistic goal and you are doing all the right things to get there. Keep it up and try not to stress about the short-term weight numbers. 10lbs per month from now on would be completely normal and will get you there well before spring!

Yup, it's totally normal for weight loss to slow. Congrats on your progress so far!

No idea if being down 100 by the spring is realistic. I guess you'll know when you get there :D

How long will it be between buying the dress and actually getting married? It could be rough to buy a dress, lose another 10lb before the wedding, and then not have it fit right.

Congratulations on your progress!!!!!

One of the reasons I choose the sleeve is because the weight loss is a bit slower that bypass, which in my mind, means that my body gets a chance to catch up with all the magic happening. The stalls still occur, but when you really think about the changes your body is going through.....not just a smaller stomach, but no longer needing some medications for it to function properly.......no longer having stress on the lungs and/or knees from additional weight......moving more......eating less and healthier......WOW....it takes your body some time and time periodically to just take it all in.

I, too, am a religious food tracker - 441 day streak as of today. It keeps me focused and on track.

It also has helped me lose 103 in a year, so you can do it.

If you haven't already, start taking your measurements. Even if you didn't before surgery, you can start now. When a stall hits, you can still the inches come off, so when the scale starts moving again, it's like bonus time. I've lost 65.25 inches to date.....my officemate's height!!! What a visual reminder!! I take my measurements once a month and weigh myself weekly. Again, it keeps me accountable and honest, and motivated.

You can do this and you've already shown how great you are at this. Keep up the great work!!!

Pretty normal to slow. Each pound takes a certain amount of calories per day and as you lose, calorie needs may lower. Its all good. I was a slow loser - sometimes only 4 lbs per month but I did get there in about 10 months to goal. Over 100 lbs. You might consider upping protein and exercise if you can but not to worry. Put your numbers into the Post Op Planner under Resources at the top of the screen.

You will get a realistic expectation of what to expect to lose each month.

My loss by month is in my signature. I started out at a lower BMI than many. The closer you get to goal, the slower the loss. Also, the more calories you eat, the slower the loss. I was eating 300-400 calories for the first couple of months, gradually increasing to about 800 at 6 Months. I stayed under 800 for the entire weight loss period and intentionally drop that low when creeping up in my comfort zone to bring my weight back down.

I had a "low" month 2 but month 3 was good to me. It's all about getting those fluids and controlling the carbs. Look at my stats, month 4 looks like it will be just as good as month 3. We'll find out next week.
