Costco find
I found the most intersting thing at Costco yesterday. They were giving out free samples (I'm still pre-op) and they had a shredded beef that comes in a can just like tuna. It was really yummy. They had some kind of BBQ sauce on it that was a bit spicer than I am use to but still. I bought a couple of cans and thought that it might be ok for the mushy time. It required very little chewing.

sharon - is there a reason besides RNY that made her say that? I can't see just the surgery being the reason why you can never eat red meat again.....
As far as finding a yummy option at costco - go for it! Just be sure to chew chew chew. And, remember - your tastes will change - don't buy too much of it pre-op.

Seriously, to echo everyone else's sentiments - I have hubby bring me a bunch of steak every weekend. (I'm at our summer place in northern NY, he meets me on weekends, and for some reason I find Canadian beef a lot more tender.) I eat steak (cheap cuts but still yummy!) at LEAST 3x per week, usually more. I marinate them for at least 24 hours usually but I could eat 6 oz of steak in an hour and I still struggle to eat 2-3 oz of chicken in 90 minutes. I know we don't have the same surgeries but I thought that might give you hope. Unless you have a dietary or moral restriction, when you're allowed to try it, go ahead, you might be pleasantly surprised!! I've been eating it since about 5-6 weeks, I was allowed solids at 4 weeks.

Sharon, red meet might be just a bit hard in the very beginning, but as far as people share here, it's actually easier to do red meat than chicken.
I can eat any type of protein, as long as I chew it well.
Red meat is also great for your skin, babee!

Yup, not sure why some doctors make those type of blanket comments. I have always been able to eat beef, in fact my first meal out just over a month post op was filet mignon. I love me some steak, now that I don't eat the salad with the bread and butter with the blue cheese dressing and croutons and the big baked potato with the butter and sour cream lathered up on it, and the cheese cake for dessert!!! uh uh uh...life is good when I can eat me some steak! Sorry, but that's how it is with me at least on this glorious post op journey of mine!!
Great find there at Costco...I'll have to check it out, Costco my favorite place to shop.

Beef, it's what is usually for dinner. LOL.
No, seriously, I eat beef, pork and chicken. As long as it's a tender cut and chewed well, I don't have any problems.

Forgot to mention - I like it blue, so even that shouldn't be a problem. The only problem I occasionally have with steak is that SOMETIMES (not always, no rhyme or reason to it) it tastes like liver, which I hate. Not too strong, and sometimes not even every bite - but it's sometimes there. Ah, the wonderful world of WLS changing tastes! LOL

There is nothing as good as a rare steak in my opinion!!!! I don't know why she said it either but she said beef would probably never be tolerable...broke my heart!!! Now I am planning my 1 month surgiversary and I am thinking some serious STEAK!!!
