OT My New Car

Ok, maybe new isn't the right word.  New to me, 1993 Ford Escort Station Wagon.  Kind of a junker.  The guy first was asking $1500 then $1000 and I bought it for $750 because I  have to fix the windshield, which should cost about $150 so total the car is costing me about $900.  I am hoping and praying that there is nothing wrong with it.  I'm not a mechanic but it sounded pretty good.  It is a 5 speed and I was hoping for an automatic but it should get good gas milage.
The odometer says 13,000 which could mean 113,000 or 213,000 or God knows what but I am hoping it means 113,000 which would be great but probably not very likely since my Hyundai had about that and it was 9 years newer (and it was considered low milage).
He told me he had it a few months and had put in a clutch and that was it.  He bought it to use as a courier but then he quit the job and didn't need it anymore.
Wish me luck.

Congrats on your new pre-owned (love that term)car! I am sending up prayers to the auto spirits for a long, smooth ride.

I hope it doesn't need anything too.

I got a deal like that for my son - it was a friend of his.  Took it in to get it checked out and the mechanic said "you're paying HOW MUCH for this car"  Told him $750 - he said "buy it - if you don't, I will"... and its done great since.  I put new tires on it - that's it...

Congrats on your new car!

I'm a firm believer in well loved pre-owned cars that are paid off.  Here's hoping you got a good one.  My machanic assures me cars are built to go 400,000 miles if folks would just take care of them.  Let's hope this one has been well cared for.

I am a firm believer in "New to ME cars" without looking at it myself, (I only know a few things) I think or hope you got a decent little car. I tend to look and see how many of this type of vehicle are left on the road years after they are not being made anymore (it says ALOT) and this type of car, I see PLENTY of! In fact thought about buying one like it for my DD....Hopefully it will be ok and you can get quite a bit of run time out of it. Good Luck!

Way to go girl. I am with you on the pre-owned car thing. My financial counselor (Dave Ramsey) says that the worst car accidents occur on the show room floor.

Always buy used!

Hopefully this one will work for you for a few years. My Tahoe is running strong at 234,000 miles.

Good deal!

I love the new to me cars...I drive a 10 year old durango with 132,000 on it and plan to drive it into the ground :) Our land is on an unpaved road and a newer car just wouldn't make sense. I like to invest my dollars in other areas!

Hoping this one lasts you for a looooooong time!

I had a '91 Escort wagon with a stick, and loved it. If a deer hadn't run over it (yes, the deer jumped on the hood, then onto the roof, leaped off the rear end and ran away to live a happy life in 1999), I'd either still have it or DD would still have it.

Nice car, nice engine, nice transmission. I hope it's as good to you as mine was to me.

Congratulations!  What a blessing!  I think you've made a good choice....it makes NO sense to buy a new car these days!!   My Honda Oydessey is 9 years old with 169,000 miles on it....hoping to get a few more years out of it!

Best wishes for smooth driving!  ENJOY!
