I'm 8 days out from part 2 of the DS, ie intestines only and am shocked that I'm eating a lot less given that I've not have my stomach re-done.

I actually did just about manage 64oz water yesterday (only reported 48oz on bites & vites) as I drank ~16oz during my nighttime toilet breaks ;-)  I also had a hotdog to bring me up to 65g protein (I wanted a pre-bed NSAID so thought I'd better eat).

I'm feeling fairly good although I do tire easily.  My drains were removed Monday so I was able to wash my hair for the first time in a week yesterday.

I'm starting to feel human again and I think my surgeon did an excellent job (I was expecting to feel a lot worse).

I lost 9lbs in 6 days, which I didn't expect as a lightweight revision.  I won't weigh for another week though as I don't want to get obsessed with the scale.

Happy to be alive and complication free, knock on wood, thanks for asking Price! ;-)

Hurray.  Sounds like you are doing good too.  If you can eat a hot dog, you must be doing ok.  NSAIDS are ok for DS?  I guess it is only RNY that avoids them because of the blinds stomach left in us.

Sounds like you are well on your way to goal, 9 lbs in 6 days, wow.

NSAIDs are OK for the DS.  This thread  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4020919/Why-cant-RNYer s-take-NSAIDS/  explains why RNYers can't have NSAIDs - the main point I've put below.  I needed to know as I'm already seeing that I have a lifetime of explaining to docs that I don't have RNY - they've already told me low fat and no NSAIDs which is not the case for DSers:

To start with NSAIDs are a weak acid, which is not a problem with a normal stomach, being that the stomach is where food mixes with gastric acid (which is a mix of hydrochloric acid, potassium chloride and sodium chloride with a ph level of 1 to 2) so it's used to strong acids. We do not have a normal stomach anymore, as a normal stomach's most inner layer is a mucosa layer, which secrets mucus protecting the stomach from gastric acid and is much thicker towards the bottom of the stomach and thinner towards the top, which the top portion is what makes up our pouch.

Sounds like you are doing great!

Are you also taking a PPI? They kept me on protonix after surgery when I went back to my celebrex (I had to be off it for 5 weeks, one week pre-op and 4 weeks after).

Yeah, just washing your hair does a LOT for our wellbeing!

Weirdly, yes they put me on a PPI.  I wasn't expecting that given I'd already had the stomach done and only had it for 4 weeks with that.

I'm on some funny Belgian stuff for another couple of days, then I have some left over Nexium and Omeprazole I got in the UK.  Think I'll move to Nexium for a few days, as that was specifically for my new smaller tum.

Hopefully I'll only need it for a month or so as it blocks calcium absorption.

Thank you everyone for the reassurance on the calories. I will focus on the fluids more.

Yeah, focus on fluids...try to aim for 64 oz a day...if the food is liquid, it counts as a fluid.

You are doing great.
