Good Morning. Be careful what you ask for...

This is sort of like getting your nutritional guidance from a doctor who didn't take the Nutrition for Normies 101 elective his first year of medical school. I know a lot of folks think doctors are next to God in all their sparkling white lab coats, but THINK for yourselves some too. Read and educate yourselves. Listen to what we say has worked for us and what doesn't. Ask questions. If your doc says basically, because I said so, think again.

That is all. Have a great Tuesday.

You definitely have to think for yourself because you are your biggest advocate.  I learned that when I was caring for my late daughter, who was my special needs child.  That was my first run-in with both very good doctors and not-so-good ones.  I quickly learned to not only educate myself but also surround myself with other folks going through similar situations.  For me, there's a sense of empowerment.

Anyway, just my 2 cents for this Tuesday morning...

And it's not gonna get better NEXT weekend!

I remember someone telling me that even C students get to be doctors! Not just the A students. I think most of us grew up thinking if they have MD behind their name, they know everything. The SMART ones are willing to learn cause they know they don't and that things can change.

Just like the diagnosis criteria for diabetes. Back when I had my one and only glucose tolerance test, they ONLY looked at one value to diagnose diabetes. And that was the fasting. What came after only triggered a warning regardless of how bad it was. Plus the fasting could go from 70- 140. 140 is HIGH but not back then. Now they look at all your values...not just your fasting but the one at 1 hour, 2 hours, etc to see where you go. That's why my diabetes was not diagnosed in 1990 when it should have been but finally in 1997 when it got way out of control.

Now the criteria for fasting is 70-99. And they've added pre-diabetes to the mix.

But it wasn't until I was trying to help dh solve his medical issues did I actually learn that doctors are as clueless in many areas as we are. And while they have many patients and can only give each person a small amount of mins, WE only have ONE...ourself! And we can give it as much time as we need. I've fired clueless doctors, esp specialists, who were too ingrained in "horse" thinking to look for zebras. Doctors are taught, "if you hear hoofbeats, think horses" but many people are ZEBRAS not horses...we don't fit their criteria and in a box.

Okay, rant over!

DH says drs are like mechanics, 1% will kill you with a hangnail, 1% can cure the incureable, the rest are just mechanics.  We have to learn our own bodies and fight for ourselves.

DH is off today for Senior Games in Raleigh, bowling.  So I have the place to myself until tomorrow night.  I need to make pizza chips, pb cookies, work on the quilt, do some work work, get my curls cut, I will be a busy lady.

I am so thankful for this board to help me along the way.  I have no idea where I would be right now if I had not had guidance from here.

It really does help when someone has actually been through it, instead of just reading about it or studying it.  Everyone does not react the same and all of us are different and have different needs.  I hate when they want us to all fit in the same little neat package.

Yes, I'm leaning towards ordering Bone Booster Complex when I get more vites - it has calcium apatite which is more absorbable.

That may sound disjointed to your posts, but if I following my surgeon's advice I'd be taking 2 multis a day (no dosage or brand advised) plus 1 gram of calcium (didn't even specify type!!).

I'm on Vitalady right now as per virtually unanimous advice (I plan on continuing apart from calcium).
