What I Didn't Eat For Thanksgiving

So I went to my son and daughter in law's for Thanksgiving.  She made a lovely turkey and I brought some sides, Ruby Tuesday's Creamy Cauliflower and Nik's 4 Cheese Cauliflower plus a sugar free, gluten free New York Cheesecake.  She had some sugar free yams and some mashed potatoes and sugar free cranberries  that looked good so I loaded up my plate, keeping in mind my limited capacity but also my desire to taste those things.  I heaped on the turkey and took a spoon full of the cauliflower dishes, yams and mashed potatoes and cranberries, keeping in mind to leave room for the cheesecake.

I knew I wouldn't be able to eat everything on my plate since it was more then I usually eat.  It was probably a larger portion then a normal, small meal but much, much less then I would have eaten pre op so I figured I could make a decent dent in it.  Once again my eyes were bigger then my stomach.  This is what my plate looked like when I done eating.

Even looking at it now I can tell it was too much food but at the time it looked reasonable.  I ate most of the turkey and barely a taste of everything else.  I attempted to take one more bite of turkey and I knew it wasn't happening.  I had to excuse myself, go to the bathroom and spit it out.  There was just no way it was going down without coming back up one way or another.  It was an hour before I attempted the cheesecake.  I was able to eat a bit more of  that then I expected, a little more then half a slice. I finished my dinner nearly 3 hours ago and I still feel stuffed.  My restriction at this point still amazes me.

It was a great dinner and great company.  I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

Wow! Beautiful plate of food! Glad you could enjoy some of it. It's the company that really matters.

lol  Yep, I planned on saving myself for the good stuff too. My gluten free gravy turned out to be a lifesaver. Did you know with enough gravy even turkey will go down and not sit like a brick?

sounds like you made good choices, including the one to stop.  I had way more food on my plate, just getting a bite of several things, then had to have a 1/2 bite of some and none of others.  I did eat some bites of deserts later but felt fine, not too full but satisfied.  that is a good feeling instead of the overstuffed I would have done before.

I know what you mean about your eyes being bigger than your tummy.  I get hungry pretty much the same as before, but just get fuller a lot sooner.  At home it's not too bad as I use a side plate so I'm used to filling my plate, but give a bigger and I still want to fill it, he he!! ;-)

Sounds like you made great choices.  Your plate of food looks good.  When I have a lot of choices, I always put way too much on my plate and end up throwing a lot away.

I probably had too much and then had dessert.  I'm trying to stick to protein today.
