I've walked and walked and walked, and taken gasx strips, but still in horrible pain.  Any suggestions? 48 hours post op.

I wish I could help but others with more experience may have wiser advice. The only things I can think of is to rest since you're walking so good. That bloating is a challenge and walking is good but I'm wondering if resting on your back, then one side and then the other would help as the gas works it way around. Would they allow you to massage gently the lower abdomen? Starting on the lower right side near the groin and going upwards until you need to stop because of the surgery and then message the left side just below surgery and down to the left groin area to help move the bubbles? I realize you can't really massage any other area of the colon because of surgery. I'm wanting to help so bad but don't know how. The technique I was describing was taught to me by a doctor to help my baby with her gas and it worked so good I showed other moms.

so it is gas pain and not incisional pain? are you taking your pain meds regularly? pain elsewhere can make gas pain worse cause you are tensing up your body and tense muscles can't release gas and stuff, you know? if it is gas try a warm heating pad where the gas is...mine was in my left shoulder/neck.it helped me tremendously.

After having horrible gas pain with other abdominal surgeries, I was surprised and thrilled to not have it so bad after WLS,  Good for you for walking.  That will help.  Take your pain meds, walk, rest, sip, repeat.  Try to fart (I know, not normally polite but get rid of what you can).  It will go away but it just takes time.

walk, sip, rest, repeat.  You got the picture.

What have you been eating? My gas was gone by 2 days out but they started giving me yogurt with milk powder in it, a big no no for me. Watch out for artificial sweetener too.

If it's not food related then you probably just need to walk more. I did laps of my hospital ward and probably did a mile at a couple of days out. I was lap and part two of the DS only so only do what you're comfortable doing.

A couple of things that helped me get rid of the gas pain (besides walking and gasx)..

While sitting on the toilet, rock back and forth....that puts pressure on the stomach without straining. Plus if your fart is a bit more than just a fart, you are in a good place.

Also if you have someone who can rub your back...that can help too.

And as someone else mentioned, be aware of what you are drinking...you may have suddenly developed lactose issues (I did).

Scooting down to let you take your place on the loser's bench. Welcome to the Dark Side!

Please come back and let us know how you're doing with the pain. Every time I pass gas, I'm thinking of you.

(that was meant to make you laugh and relieve some of the pressure:)

Hope you are feeling better now!!  If you are taking your pain meds and still hurting, you might want to call your surgeon just to make nothing else is happening.  Are you passing any gas?
