Good Morning. So much stuff

At my parents' house and I think they've become hoarders or close to it. This really inspires me to clean out my study when we get back home. Hubby will likely be itching to clean out our basement again too. OMG, there are piles of stuff and clutter everywhere here. I know it's just gotten away from them but they need help to clear some of this out but first they have to want to clear it out. It must represent some kind of control or security for them. Not sure.

Anyway, my New Year resolution is to clear some clutter out of my house when we get back. What are you're resolutions?

Happy New Year!!

I need to work out.  My butt is wasting away.  My glutes were really firm thanks to the many spinning classes I used to do, but getting going on exercise is the hardest bit - need to eat something in the office before I leave so that the first I do is exercise and not eat!!

Seems like that happens to a lot of older folks.  I have been decluttering for a while and have more to do.  When the surveyor comes Jan 17,18, it will be to my home since my office is here.  So out goes all the unnecessary stuff.

Resolutions, I don't really make them but I do intend to drive my pony more, keep my weight where it needs to be by eating right and exercising.  Stay accountable.

I like to hang on to stuff if it has an emotional connection for me.  Every now and then I have to go through things and just get rid of them.  I actually had every check, bank statement and income tax return I had ever done in my life up until a couple of years ago!!  I finally said enough and DH burned it all except the last 8 years.

My mom loves to hang on to things like scraps of material that she has used for a craft or sewing project.  She has it everywhere - hid from my dad of course!!

I need to start back exercising.  I keep saying I'm going to go back to the gym because it is just too cold outside to walk/jog, but just keep putting it off.  Now I am finally down to deciding where I want to go.  I've belonged to them all so I need to pick one.... and just DO IT!!

My Mother use to keep everything...then when she decided to downsize and move, she got good at clearing stuff out...I got quite a few things from her then. The rest I got after she died.

Moving will help declutter...and we've moved 15 times in 16 years. I'll be decluttering again this year with us moving again in the fall. I refuse to pack and move stuff I don't need or want.

However, if it has a sentimental meaning, I will find a way to keep it.

Exercise...while I swear I am allergic to it, I know I need it. We have access to Silver Sneakers (it's a program many Medicare Advantage programs offer). Just need to 1) wait til it is ACTUALLY 2013, 2) get registered using our 2013 info 3) go visit the Y which is one of the places we can use it.

Otherwise, it's still exercising at home.

I typically don't make resolutions - but again I will go back to the "old" one to lose some weight.  I was really hoping that wasn't going to happen to me again.  But - it's at a manageable stage instead of being so out of control I feel hopeless.  I also need to get back into exercising.  Oh - and protein drinks again!

One of my real resolutions I could make is to get my finances in order so I'm closer to "retiring" again - and back to Michigan.  The more I'm here the harder it is to go back.

I did the declutter thing a few times last year, so that is definitely under control.  I have a few things to get rid of, but not a lot.

I know what you mean though regarding parents - when my folks moved last year - it was horrendous to see all the accumulation of junk they had.  My Mom definitely got a lot cleaned out, but she moved so much stuff I wonder what she really needs out of it.  Boxes from August are still sitting unopened...

Jody, this last move in 2011, I unpacked some boxes that had stayed packed since I moved in 2000! It was like opening Christmas presents!
