My Surgiversary

Tomorrow is my one year surgeriversary. My BMI this morning is 25.2. The lowest it has been is 25.4. Yes, darn it, I did gain 4 pounds back. I want to share my experience and give some advice to the newbies. I had a very easy time with my gastric bypass. I had one hiccup. I got the stomach flu 6 weeks after my surgery. The ER doctor didn't understand the importance of IV fluids in a newly post op patient and only gave me 1 L. Within the week I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration. I was very sick. Lesson learned: demand or have someone else advocate for you that any and all ER doctors contact your surgeon for advice within the first year after surgery. Six months after surgery, my life fell apart and I ate an Oreo. Just one and I did not sick. Then I ate 2, then I ate 4. Do you recognize a trend? Lesson learned: don't find out that you don't dump! Assume you do and live your life that way. Other lessons: don't stray from this board. It is hard to get back into the habit. These ladies are intelligent, knowledgeable and extremely supportive. They have been there and done that. Twice.

Those are my words of wisdom. The positive things in my life are too numerous to put here but some highlights are sexy high heeled boots, Victoria Secret bras, size small PJ and scrub pants, yes, small, my coworker asking who the new hot chick was when he hadn't seen me for a few weeks, hiking all day and my husband and daughter begging for the breaks....need I go on? My self confidence is up, my blood pressure and A1C are down. It doesn't get better than that! Oh yeah, I bought a tankini to wear on my cruise last month. My husband said it should have been a bikini because I was thinner than most of the women wearing them!

I really want to thank you all for the support you gave me over the last year! I will upload some pics so you can see my progress.
