Good Morning. Vitamins and sleep

I don't think my lack of ability to sleep is caffeine related so I'm wondering if it's because my vitamin levels are so good or because I take my vitamins so close to my bedtime. I'm talking about my big batch of evening vitamins, whi*****ludes a multivitamin and a few other things like D3, calcium, magnesium, boron, K2, etc.  Do you have extra alertness just after taking vitamins or if your labs are really good? I'm finding I wake up after 3 or 4 hours and then off and on for the next 2 hours for a total of 6 hours night's sleep...and I'm not tired during the day. Curious.

Good Morning Gina,

I don't notice that I have an extra alertness after taking my vitamins but I was getting up taking my copper and iron at about 2am and I noticed that when I went back to bed I couldnt sleep sometimes that was it for me for the night. I blamed it on them not going down right or the burping etc. I found that as long as I take my iron when I get up at 5am I have all my vitamins down by 3 or 4 pm and I'm sleeping much better now.

My waking up in the middle of the night had nothing to do with vitamins...it was related to a prescription medication I was on at the time that supposedly helped with sleep but DID have an uncommon side effect of wakefulness.

Gina, you had been getting up SO early for so long, sleeping longer now is not in your DNA. With time you can adjust it but it does take time.

I've had terrible insomnia for years and I started taking Ambien about 3 1/2 years ago until I started having regular side effects such as waking up and doing and saying things with no memory of it the next day.  My doctor told me not to use it anymore.  I tried a few others and they either did the same thing or nothing at all.  Finally, about a year ago I decided to see what would happen if I didn't use anything and guess what?  I slept!  Without help for the first time in years.  I still have times when I wake up a few times but I am usually able to go right back to sleep.  On occasion that I can't sleep I take Tylenol PM and/or Melatonin.  I wonder if my sleeping has improved as my vitamin status has improved?  Or maybe I am just older and more tired?  I'm not complaining, I just find it surprising that I am sleeping better then I have in years and when I wake up I am not tired like I used to be.

I've always been a pretty good sleeper but go to bed early and get up early and wake several times a night (protein drink right before bed).  I've started taking Melatonen and it seems to help me sleep sounder, wake fewer times and stay asleep longer.  No side effects.

DH can't take Vits, esp Bs before bed or he can't sleep.

I usually sleep pretty good.  I just take a multi-vitamin at night and a super magnesium.  I do have to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night which wakes me up, but usually can go right back to sleep.

The only time I have trouble sleeping is when a lot is going on and I can't get my brain to TURN OFF!!!  I work/think all night long and it drives me crazy because I am tired the next day.

Maybe you can mention to Vitalady next time you're in touch.

I've started taking my iron all in one batch and I'm sleeping sooo much better (I take it just before bedtime).  Maybe I'm anxious about remembering to take it when I got up - who knows.

BTW I can't sleep many hours in a row, but that's as a result of having had apnea for so many years.  The natural sleep cycle is meant to be 90 minutes and most people only stir and turn over at this point.  I'm a light sleeper (after having woken up several times an hour for more than a decade), that I fully wake up after each cycle.  If I even slightly have to use the bathroom then I better go as I can't get back to sleep otherwise.
