Step One - Get Referral

I'm just now starting the process. I've already been to my PCP, and he gave me a referral to see Dr. Simpson. But I haven't really made up my mind regarding whether to get the lap-band, or RNY.  I found out that my insurance will cover Dr. Juarez, so I called my PCP's office yesterday to ask about getting a referral there. The doc's office called me back this morning, confirming that my insurance will cover Dr. Juarez, so she put in for an approval for a referral and said it will be a couple of days. Wow. I didn't know that I have to get an approval just to get a referral, maybe she's talking about the PCP? Anyway, at least things are getting set into motion. I'm going to have to wait to even make an appointment with Dr. Juarez until I get this referral faxed over.  I do wonder what, if anything, my insurance will require to get this done.
