Boot Camp Tomorrow

Dec 04, 2007

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

After months of waiting I'm almost in. My lap band surgery is scheduled for December 19th, two weeks from now. I went through all the process, and tomorrow I'm off to boot camp.

I'm still waiting to hear from the insurance company to find out if they approved the surgery or not. I'm taking this easy. If my surgery is not approved I'm not going to sweat it, although I really want to have this surgery done. After all the tests I've had and all the waiting I hope to be banded on the 19th.

I've had a very nasty cold since Thursday, and when I went for my pre-registration yesterday, they were concerned about my cold. I'm taking the antibiotics my primary doctor prescribed and I am feeling much better, but I still have a stuffy head and my chest is still congested. I do hope I'm 100% better tomorrow. This nasty cold has put me out of work for 3 days.

UPDATE!!!

I received a phone call from my surgeon's office and my health insurance denied my surgery. I was told that there is an appeal. My boot camp and surgery have been postponed until after the appeal.

More Waiting

Sep 05, 2007

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

It turns out now that I have to be cleared for surgery by a cardiologist, and I won't be able to be seen until October 15. I got a call from the doctor's office and they told me that I need to see a cardiologist and I'm wondering what did they find that is sending me off to a cardiologist.

This has been a long process for me and if it wasn't for the fact that I really want to have this surgery done, I would've given up a long time ago.

Long Wait

Sep 03, 2007

Monday, September 3, 2007

My surgeon's office called last week to let me know that everything was in except for my EKG report. I had to call the hospital and speak with someone in cardiovascular services to ask for the report to be faxed to my doctor. The lady told me she was going to call his office and see what she could do. I called Dr. O's office, and the secretary told me that once she gets the report, I will be scheduled to see the doctor and he will set up a surgery date for me. I can't wait.

Because we had a 3 day weekend being it was Labor Day, I haven't heard anything else, but I'm calling my surgeon tomorrow to see if the EKG report is in. As of right now, I don't have a surgery date, and I don't have the slightest clue when it will be, but I'm waiting and willing.

Sleep Test Results In

Aug 24, 2007

Saturday, August 25, 2007

Yesterday I went back to the pulmonologist for the sleep test results. I have mild apnea which the doctor is not concerned about. He cleared me for surgery, woohooo! I can't wait 'til Monday to call Dr. O's office and set up another appointment. All the test results are in, and all I have to do is call to continue with this looong process.

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. Amen.

I Had Sleep Study Done

Aug 08, 2007

Thursday, August 8, 2007

I finally had the sleep test done, after waiting for a month or so. It wasn't a big deal. I got to the sleep center at 9:15 p.m. and was met by a very friendly technician. I was hooked up to whole bunch of wires and slept in a very nice, comfortable room, but I didn't sleep much. I woke up around 6 times and by 5:30 a.m. I was fully awake. I got home at 6:00 a.m. Now I have to wait to be seen by the doctor and see what he says. It takes around 2 weeks to have the results in.

In the meantime, I'm going to Mexico tomorrow morning. Actually, we'll be leaving for the airport at around 12 midnight or 1 a.m. tonight, which is technically tomorrow which is Friday.

See you when I get back.

Insurance Denied Pulmonologist

Aug 03, 2007

Friday, August 3, 2007

I received a call from the pulmonologist's office yesterday telling me that my husband's insurance had denied the payment of $300 for my visit on July 10. They were denying payment because I had a primary insurance, which I don't. I did while I was employed but as of July 1, I no longer have my own medical coverage. I was told to call the insurance company and let them know that I no longer have medical insurance apart from my husband's.

I called today and explained to them what the situation was and they asked me to fax them a letter of termination from my employer, which I did. I immediately faxed them the letter, and had to do it twice because I wasn't faxing it right. After the second try, though, I called and they had received the letter. I was told that they were going to process the claim again. I called the doctor's office and told the person in charge of billing what was happening and that the insurance company was going to process the claim again.

Hopefully I won't have anymore problems with my husband's insurance. I was rehired at school where I teach Spanish, and hopefully my own insurance will approve my surgery. Let's see what happens.

Medical Clearance

Jul 30, 2007

Monday, July 30, 2007

Hooray!!!! My personal physician just cleared me for surgery. He couldn't do it before because he needed to see the lab results. My hemoglobin is just 1 point above, almost borderline. My blood pressure was 150/100. I took the medical clearance straight to my surgeon's office, but I still can't do much until I have my sleep study done. I can't schedule an appointment to see the surgeon again until he has all the results in.

Sleep Center

Jul 24, 2007

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

All I've been doing is twiddling my thumbs doing nothing. I called the sleep center where I'm scheduled for the sleep test to see if anyone had cancelled, and no one has. I told the lady that if anybody cancels to please call me. I can't have the sleep test done anywhere else because that's where the doctor sends all of his patients.

In the meantime, my oldest daughter had nasal surgery and is doing just fine. She's still a bit sore, but she's good. My husband has Horizon Healthcare and her surgery was denied until the doctor appealed the insurance company's decision and we received the call the day before her surgery that the insurance had approved it.

That Blasted Sleep Apnea Test!!!

Jul 13, 2007

Friday, July 13, 2007

I think I've hit a road block. I was doing so good with all of my appointments being scheduled for the same week, all, but one. Early this morning I received a call from the pulmonologist's office. The nurse practitioner wanted me to get an ultrasound of my left leg done. When I had my second child, I ended up in the hospital for a week after he was born because I had a blood clot in my left leg. I was bedridden for 6 days and was in pain. I felt my leg was going to fall off. It was swollen and throbbed nonstop. That wasn't fun. Although this happened 13 years ago, the nurse practitioner was concerned that I might have one now. I immediately made the appointment to have it done, and they were able to schedule me for 11:00 a.m. Talk about being fast. I'm trying everything in my power to try to speedy up this process.

Well, today I also received a call from the sleep center where I'm having my sleep apnea test done. The earliest they could schedule me was for August 8, 3 1/2 weeks from now. I'm extremely disappointed. I called the pulmonologist's office to let them know when I'm going for my test and they scheduled me for August 24. Well, I almost cried over the phone. Summer's going to be over and I was hoping to have this surgery done before I went back to school (if they'll have me back). I still don't know what's going to happen with my job.

My surgeon won't schedule the next appointment to see me until he has all the test results and the medical clearance from my PCP. This means that I would have the surgery after school starts. I'm going to call on Monday to see if I can have this test done at another location much sooner. I was aiming for next week or the week after next. In other words, I'm shooting for this month. I would be losing precious time by having to wait until the 8th of August.

Nutritionist

Jul 12, 2007

Thursday, July 12, 2007

Today I went to my appointment with the nutritionist. It was an interesting appointment. They took my weight and measured my height, my blood pressure and some other stuff. I weigh 234 pounds and I am 5'5'' tall. I've shrunk!!!! I used to be 5'7" tall. My total fat weight is 156 pounds, and I was shocked to learn that 66% of my total weight is all fat. They took my "before" picture and put it in a binder. My blood pressure was 144/98.

The nutritionist talked to me about eating healthy, and things I should start doing now, before surgery. She told me to start walking for at least 10 minutes, and start weaning myself from carbonated drinks. I should also start taking in calcium and proteins so when I have my surgery, I'm already used to it.

I also asked the secretary if they faxed my labwork results to my PCP, and she told me she had faxed him everything, but gave me copies of the results just in case the fax didn't go through. I can't go see him tomorrow, but I'll definitely go next week, God willing.

I also called the pulmonologist and left a message for the person in charge of testing. I still haven't received the phone call to let me know when I can be scheduled for the sleep apnea test. Right now, this is the only test that's holding me up a bit because it takes two weeks after the test to get the results.
