Psychological help - do I need it?
Oct 01, 2010
My husband and sister think it would be a good idea for me to get psychological help before and during this whole process. I am resistant. This was my experience with my insurance mandated psych eval: my appointment was at 10:30, I got there at about 10:15 to do paperwork, the "doctor" called me in like 2 or 3 minutes early, and like 10 minutes later I was on my way to my car! I swear! I checked my cell phone time to be sure - 10:37! This guy was obviously a charlatan, but he was recommended by my doctor's office!! He actually said "this is basically a rubber stamp". I paid $150 (not covered by insurance) for this quack to approve me.SO, that is why I am loathe to seek this sort of assistance.
HOWEVER, I do find myself focused a lot on what I will be missing after surgery. I had to jump into my pre-op diet immediately after I got my surgery date, so I did not have a "farewell food tour" like I would have wanted. Maybe that will be good for me in the long run. I am being very successful at the 70 grams protein/30 grams carbo thing, so doesn't that bode well for the future? I think if I can do this, anything will be doable, psych help or not.
Less than 1 week to go until surgery - yee haw!!!
