3 years post-op

Aug 30, 2012

I am 3 years post-op and still down 172 lbs.  I am very diligent with my vitamins, and go into my surgeon's office every 2 weeks for a B-12 shot, and weigh-in every two weeks while I'm there.  This has kept me accountable and when I see that I have gone up a few lbs, I get back on track and watch the carbs, sugar, and start eating PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN.  I am dedicated to not letting my weight get out of a 5-lb gain and this has been the first time in my life that I feel I AM IN CONTROL .... the RNY is STILL the best decision I ever made.

3 months from my two year anniversary!

Apr 15, 2011

Haven't done a blog update in seven months!  Geez ... spank me NOW, lol !!!! I need a good spank'n ... any takers?  Just teasing!

All in all I have done great!  I have gone up a few lbs since the holidays, but am still very conscious of my food choices and intake.  I, like everyone else, start letting carbs and sweets start creeping back into our daily life, but its different for me this time!  I know that I must stop and rewind!  I could and never WILL allow the obesity monster to take CONTROL again!  So, I am back to basics as of today and gonna start back logging my food on Fit Day and posting it daily on the WETEO blog in the Main Forum.  This helped me so much my first year.  I also am going to drink the dreaded protein shakes (ugh) twice a day and have a lowfat meal once a day for a month just to get my body back to not craving carbs.  My two year check up is coming up the first of July and I want to weigh in at my goal of 190.  I was 205 at my one year check-up.  Being that I am almost 6 feet tall, I think 190 will be what I need to be at and is what I had projected from the beginning down from 370. Woohoo!!  Good luck to all!

Onederland

Aug 05, 2010

I reached "onederland" today!  What an exciting goal!! I am now one year and one month out and down 172 lbs.  This has truly been an incredible journey and quite a challenging one too!  I am only 8..5 lbs away from my personal goal.  I am finding that if I can keep my proteins over 100 and carbs under 50 that the weight melts off much quicker!

One Year Out!

Jul 10, 2010

I haven't blogged in a while, so I needed to "catch up."  Even though I have continued to be active on the "boards," I need to keep my blogs up so that one day I can look back and remember all the challenges, and goals I have overcome.  I journalize my food daily, and post my accountability on the WETEO board each night so that I can see exactly where I'm at with my food intake.  I strongly feel like this has been very important in this journal.  Calories really add up fast.

My surgeon was so proud of my progress at my one year check-up.  All my labs were GREAT, all my co-morbities are resolved, GERD, sleep apnea, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure.  I am off of all my medications, and feel fabulous.  He said that I had far surpassed his goals for me, but that if I wanted to lose a little more I could, but as far as he was concerned, he had done his job by resolving all my co-morbities and restoring my body to a healthy state.  I am down 165 lbs in one year! My personal goals are about 15 lbs more.  I plan on having plastic surgery on my arms the first of the year.  That is my goal for 2011.  I plan on having my ducks in a row come January, and just add that dollar figure into my "health spending account."  My arms are my biggest trouble area.  I can't seem to hide those.  I might need a lower body lift some time in the future, but for now ... SPANX is doing a good job! Giggles!

I have so much energy ..... and I find that if I stay busy ..... and active..... I can control the "boredom hunger" monster better!  That is my biggest challenge right now.  I have all this energy, and no one to share it with .... so that is also a goal for me.  Find me a man who loves to be active and GO GO GO!  I do miss love in my life .... and its time for me to consider that possibility.

9 months post-op

Mar 23, 2010

Weighed in today and got my B-12 shot.  Was down 6 lbs for month 9 (making a grand total of 138) .... the  weight is definitely slowing down a bit ..... but I am so thankful that thus far I haven't had a stall.  I realize that the further out I get,  the slower the weight would come off .... but I'm trying to keep positive, and I am SO GRATEFUL to have had the opportunity to regain my health.  We sometimes get impatient, get in too big a hurry ..... and want to be at goal YESTERDAY, lol ... !  I look at this as a CHALLENGE, and I am now very conscious that it will be a lifetime challenge but I know I CAN DO IT AND WILL!  I refuse to allow OBESITY to HANDICAP me again!

7 months out !

Jan 31, 2010

Time for an updated blog!! Had my 7 month weigh-in and 6 month follow-up with surgeon's office on Thursday, and I am now down 126 lbs.  I was thrilled to death with my results, was taken off yet one more medicine and was told that my labs were excellent.  I was a little low on Vit D, and started a new Dry Vit D supplement by BA and am taking every other day.  I also decided to start taking a B-12 Dot (500 mg) 3 times a week on top of my already once a month B-12 shot just to try to up my levels even though they are in the "normal" ranges.

I had a really long talk with my surgeon's PA and he addressed alot of questions that I had.  I would like to document these in a "blog" so that I can always return to the advice in my future, and I really needed to hear these things.  The focus being on "regaining."

He assured me that nothing in the "change" of our anatomy make us more prone to "gain" weight after the honeymoon phase is over. It actually is our tool to utilize forever in eating smaller portions, and using behavorial modification with our eating disorder. He said that from their experiences, that the majority of people who regain (usually after 3 years) are the ones who go back to their old eating habits, who start GRAZING, start eating sugar, fat and bad carbs --  testing their pouches and eventually getting their pouch to once again "accept" those type of foods, and "stop" or don't exercise as much as they did in the first 3 years. His views from most of their surgeries, are that the pouch "rarely" stretches and that they use the most durable part of the stomach to make the pouch. When they have done endoscopies on people who are regaining, they normally find that the pouch is the same size as it was at surgery. Normally is the key word. I'm sure there are those "rare" incidents. Now this may not be true with "all" WLS or RMY surgeries performed by others, just the views and experiences with my particular doctor's office. I have had great results along my journey and really "toot" his horn every chance I get. He knows his stuff.

With that said, I came away with a "renewed" spirit about my tool and regardless of what I hear from others, I now realize that the SUCCESS of my surgery is ultimately up to me. I am trying very hard to change my eating habits, don't graze all day ... eat nutritious foods vs. crap food, and portion control .... portion control ... did I say PORTION CONTROL?  lol ... !! Exercise is also important because ultimately what this is ALL ABOUT is calories in ..... calories out ..... total calories per day!!

Five "planned" meals a day .... good food choices (limiting fats and sugar, good carb choices), portion control, and exercise should really help me in my journey for a successful weight loss and maintenance for a lifetime.  I know that there will be struggles along the way ..... but my goals needs to always be the above, and should I find myself "straying," I need to go back to point A.

WLS is a life saver!

Nov 24, 2009

It is so amazing hearing all the "success" stories on OH.  Plain and simple, WLS is a life saver for so many!!!!

How do I even begin to emphasis how this has changed my life .... and can't wait until 6 - 12 months down the road to re-evaluate my accomplishments since surgery.

Before Surgery:

I was in "living" HELL.

I was depressed beyond repair, just couldn't pull myself out of the pit.

I sank lower than my lowest, and the more weight I packed on, the lower I sank.

I became "anti-social" .............. which really affected my once "social butterfly" personality.

Didn't feel like going to work, much less anything social.

Was diabetic and had to start insulin shots daily just to get my A1C down to a "safe" level for surgery, taking 2 blood pressure pills, 60 mg prozac for depression, cholesterol meds, sleep apnea, and a beta blocker because when I went to have my stress test in preparation for my surgery, the cardiologist said my heart rate wasn't stable and he wanted me to get on meds to get my heart rate balanced out before surgery.  That was the last straw .... !!

After surgery:

Diabetes controlled since day 1 of surgery

Day one taken off one of blood pressure meds

3 Months post-op taken off cholesterol meds, and prozac decreased

4 1/2 months post-op taken off of beta blocker and down 100 lbs., walking 3 miles daily, and see the LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL.

I HAVE RAISED MY TWO PRECIOUS CHILDREN, AXIOUSLY AWAITING THE "GRAND BABIES" .... HAVE TAKEN CARE OF MY TWO WONDERFUL PARENTS WHO ARE NOW DECEASED .....

I AM NOW LOOKING FORWARD TO ENJOYING MY THIN LIFE TAKING CARE OF ME, ME ME!!

One week shy of 5 months post-op

Nov 23, 2009

I have now lost 100 lbs.  WOOHOO ..... How incredible is this journey?  I have been taken off yet another medication as of today!!! I am now off of diabetes meds, cholesterol meds, and two blood pressure pills.

I actually squeezed my fat arse in a size 18 jeans today!! Considering I was wearing a 28 less than 5 months ago ....I am thrilled!

I am finding that I am hungrier the farther out I get.  I think that we sometimes get in a rut .... eating the same old foods over and over ..... I think I need to change a few of my food items and add some variety.

I think the most important thing I've done is to journalize my food!  It really keeps me on track knowing my total calories, protein, carbs & fats.
