A Milestone

Nov 23, 2010

I went shopping this morning to find an outfit to wear  over Thanksgiving weekend.  I'm going to my hometown to visit family and I haven't seen any of them since the day of my surgery.  I found out that I am out of the 20-something sizes and now in the teen sizes.  I haven't been in teen sizes since I was in high school! I bought a size 18 pair of yoga pants and jeans (actually jeggings...yeah I'm getting a little bold ).  Plus a couple of shirts and bras.  I'm really excited about the bras.  I'm bad at buying bras. I have a ton of bras that do not fit properly. Only recently have I realized that  I can not buy bras at a general store like Target and thatI have to go to a women's department store, get sized (especially since I'm losing weight), and try on the bras before I buy them. I don't usually like to be assisted when I shop but there was a really nice and knowledgable sales clerk at Lane Bryant and she was super helpful. She measured me, picked out what style bras would work best, and checked the fit of the bra after I put them on. My ill fitting bras were making me looking bigger (and sloppy) and the bra that I tired on made me look a lot better.  The sales rep pointed out that my stomach looked a lot smaller. I spent so much more money than I planned (damn that sales clerk )  but I don't regret it. I've been trying not to buy clothes while I'm losing weight but I've gone from a  size 24/26 to a size 18 and I can't keep wearing the baggy clothes.  I did have a range of sizes in my clothes because of how my weight has gone up and down over the years but before I wentshopping today I only had 4 pairs of bottoms ( 2 pairs of jeans and 2 pairs of khaki )that fit me now.
