One more month before approval

Apr 28, 2011

I finally got to meet my surgeon last week.  I spent a day at the bypass center, meeting dietician, lifestyle coaches, nurses and my surgeon.  Wow what an amazing group of people!  I have to say as someone who works in health care I was really impressed, and I dont say that often.  They were extrememly organized and thorough.  My surgeon was both reassuring and realistic.  We discussed multiple surgeries and came to the decision that the RNY would be the best procedue for me.  I saw the rooms that I would be in post op and felt very comfortable with the hospital.

I am supposed to go ahead and start taking my vitamins and increasing my protien for the next 2 months before surgery.  Taking the vitiamins is going to be tough.  I am not good about taking medications on a regular basis, so getting into the habit is going to be tough for me.  I am also taking the opportunity to try some different vitiamins and protien supplements to see which I like best.

I am working on the exercise part of things as well.  I have been exceptionally tired lately and working out/walking has been tough.   I am also having an extreme amount of knee pain.  Surgery would be the best option,  but I want to wait until after WLS to see if wt reduction doesnt help.  It should!!!   I would like to be 50-60lbs lighter before surgery.

I only have one more meeting the the dietician and RN that is required by my insurance.  The 6 month wait is almost over!  While I was a bit resentful at first about waiting for 6  months, I really believe it has been helpful.  I feel very prepared for the surgery and I have had a chance to prepare my family and friends as well.

I am so ready.  I am so thankful for this website.  Reading other peoples blogs and looking at the pictures is so inspiring.
