Home again....

Apr 09, 2010

On Tuesday, I got really sick....I just thought that I took my vitamins with my tea too fast, and was experiencing some nausea, dizziness and stomach pains.
During my walk with Mia, everything became worse.  I came home and called my surgeon (who wasn't in) and my PCP.  Both of their nurses recommended that I go to the ER due to the symptoms I was having.
By the time I got to the ER, I was unable to deal with the pain.  I had to undergo a CT scan, ultrasound, and x-rays, and my doctor said that he had to do emergency surgery.   Results from the tests showed that my gallbladder and surrounding area was all messed up.
A colleague (Dr. Rahman) of my bariatriac surgeon (Dr. Sadhasivam--who was out of town) performed the surgery.  All I am going to say is that Gallbladder surgery has to be one of the most painful surgery ever!  My RNY was a walk in the part compared this!!
I came home this morning and doing okay.  I hate taking pain killers, but have a bit of pain still.  I am not able to work for at least a week due to surgery. Thank goodness that my boss is very understanding about the RNY and subsequent surgery!!  I am hoping that this is the last surgery and the amount of problems I have will lessen, but still glad that I had my RNY.

Officially 1 month out!

Apr 04, 2010

Today is one month from my surgery!  The changes that I see are huge..(excuse the pun! LOL) :

I am down to 238 lbs.  Total weight loss now is 52 pounds...I look at the scale and I still don't believe it.  I put on my old clothes and they are too big, and baggy.

I am moved from a 26W to a 20W on top, and on pants.  Now I am excited about shopping in the "normal" sized clothing.  I don't ever want to shop in a "Plus Size" shop or department again.

My legs don't hurt as much....I can say goodbye to my heating pad and tylenol.  Before surgery...I would come home from work in such pain from the pain in my legs and ankles.

My energy level is 100% better. There are so many things that I am looking forward to do this summer and into the next year!!!  Going to visit friends and family I haven't seen in years, I am making plans to visit England and Scotland this summer....and finally, and hopefully making the move back to Denver, Colorado this summer.

I am more outgoing, and my confidence is at a all-time high.  Nothing is going to stop me from getting healthier and making the goals that I want to accomplish this year.

4 week check-in

Mar 29, 2010

Well, I finally got under 250 lbs..... At my weigh-in for my 4 week check (which is supposed to be April 4th) I weighed in at 246.6!!! I am thrilled!!!!

I finally got cleared to have soft foods!~ Yippie!~ I thought that I would never eat anything with texture again!!! Tonight I am having smoked salmon and a bit of cream cheese!!! So good..it's almost sinful! lol

Although I could have lost more in the last two weeks, I would rather have the weight come off slower and learn how to eat right than to mess this up and keep my crappy eating habits!
I have been having a hard time getting more fluids in....only about 1/3 of what I should be doing.  My goal this week is to get it up to at least 32 ozs a day... It's been hard, but well worth the struggle!!

Hanging in....

Mar 26, 2010

I think that I have hit the dreaded 1st plateau...don't think that I have lost weight, but more inches....which is good, but now experiencing a horrible case of saggy drawers and non-filled bras! LOL  I have read about others' having this experience, but when it happens to you, it is a double edged sword!  It's nice to know that I am losing inches, but it's beginning to look like 5 pounds of potatoes in a 15 pound sack! LOL

The only thing is that I am having a problem with is that I am not losing my tummy...hopefully that will change over the next month or two...I guess it will come in time. I just have to get out and do some longer walks...Mia, my dog is going to be as skinny as me by summertime!

Yummy!!!

Mar 21, 2010

Tonight I made split pea soup! It is so yummy (just the smell and taste!) Love it!!!  My tastebuds are coming back to life...lol!
I have noticed that there are some smells are starting to gross me out (as weird as that sounds).  I do miss some of my favorites (Subway, hot salsa and chips) but in several weeks I hope that I can have these!  Definitely trying to make better choices in what I eat (although it is a bit of kicking and screaming...lol).

Two week check-in

Mar 17, 2010

Well, I went in to do my two week weight check with my nutritionist, and lost another 5 pounds!!! YAY!!! And I get to move to more substantial diet!! Thank goodness!
I still have to increase the amount of water each day....it has been hard as I didn't know what my little stomach actually holds.  But know now that I can hold up to 1/3 -1/2 c.  so that alleviates alot of my fears that I am overloading it.
AHHHHHHH!!!! FLAVOR and some texture!!  I am soooo excited to have something that will taste great!!! No more Jello for me!!! Yippie Zippie Do dats!!! LOL

My first two Wows!!!

Mar 15, 2010

The past day and a half have been alot better! I have been able to get some more
things. Finally today I got to go out and walk with my dog Mia! Sooooo glad,
even though it was blowing cold winds!! LOL
My first Wow was when I got out my 2X Down Coat and put it on! Before surgery it
was tight around the hips (believe me, you couldn't get a piece of paper between
my hips and the zippers!!) I zipped it up and there was about 4 inches too big
around my hips, and loose around my neck! It was GREAT!!!!
Second Wow!! My dog Mia was ready to quit before I was. We walked about a 1/4
mile on our walk, and she was in a hurry to turn around and go home! So after
1/4 mile walk back, we got home and Mia went back to bed for a nap!! It was
wonderful to get out and not be totally winded and ready to drop!

Better...lol

Mar 14, 2010

As exciting as it is, I find that I do have tastebuds!  Finally got the courage to have some tomato soup, it was GREAT~!!  It has been getting better every day!!  Now I just have to look forward to have something more substantial in the next stage.
Still having problems getting in the right amount of water each day, but have to push myself.

Getting better...

Mar 12, 2010

Yesterday was a bad day for me...glad that it is over!  All through it all, I got more sleep and feel alot better.  I guess that the old saying goes..."There's no place like home."   It was good to sleep thru the night without someone waking me up for one reason or another.
I am taking it one day at a time and going to rest as much as I can, so I can return to work.  I don't miss it , but bills come due, and I want to take 2 weeks of vacation (going to the UK) this summer.  Hoping to visit some friends there and do the tourist thing...lol
Just hanging at home, and trying to stay motivated until I see my nutritionist on the 17th.  Definitely going to be glad to move to another phase of pureed foods.  No more liquid, don't care...can't stand jello or broth any more. lol
