Oct 30, 2011
Ok so I have started a group called Dr. Scott Gmora/ Dr. Mehran Anvari/ Dr Dennis Hong on Facebook, its private so you have to sk to join but anyone who has hd their surgery in Hamilton at St.Joes this is for YOU! Im tired of trying to look something up and having the US or other clinics in Canada in the answers, it doesn't apply to us and I just wanted somewhere so we can ask eachother what to do or what we need etc....Hope to see you ALL there. FYI no one can see or read anything on the page.

Diabetic Boost
Oct 30, 2011
SOOOOO Iv been complaining and moping around the last week because I HATE the boost drinks that we have to drink 3 of a day (I dislike the CIB as well).............well I had a freaking moment this morning when I woke up and said to myself "ok, I need to find something to get me to drink these shakes" AND then it occured to me "hey I hated Optifast when i started it too" SOOOOO I then realized I started LOVING Optifast when I was adding black defac coffee to it, SO today at lunch when it was cold I added the coffee instead of the water I was using to smooth it out and now I LOVE IT! lol YAY ME, I feel so much better now that I can drink them all and also add 120ml of coffee as extra liquid! Just thought i'd share.

ok so im just going to get into it..
Day of Surgery:
Ok so my mom came with me and we left Simcoe at about 5:15am got to the hospital about 6:20 and FINALLY found he new surgical unit, which looks like you are stepping into an episode of That 70's Show with the lime green and the bright bright white walls. Holy it was bright for 6am. Pretty but a shocker at first lol. Anyhow there was hardly no wait at all I checked in and was sent right to the back where you lay on a strecher in a gown and get your IV hooked up along with a dose of heperin(sp*). Next you wait about an hour and a half and then Dr. Gmora came to see me and asked if I was ready to go, I smiled and said I couldnt wait. So this very very peppy guy comes to get you and wheels you to the back. I was in the hall for a bit but once in the brand new room I couldnt help but stare at everything in there, there was so much stuff and so white and stainless steel! lol. before I knew it Dr. Gmora held my hand and asked once again if I was ready and once again I said "yep, lets do this" he then said we will count down from 10 and you wont feel a thing. I dont remember anything after that.
I was out of surgery at about 11:30 and in recovery till about 1ish. I was brought up to my room around then, I think lol. I honestly dont remember a thing this afternoon I was so high on the drugs they were feeding me. I was on morphine and Dilaudid for most of the day and they found everytime I would start to fall asleep my heart rate would fall too...down to about 35-40, NOT COOL! They were taking so much blood and coming in every half an hour to amke sure it was still stating about 60-70bpm ( beats per min). I wasnt doing well with the drugs at all so finally as I started to come too I realized what was going ona dn begged them to stop the drugs. They asked 100 times if I was sure and I just kept telling them to stop the drugs. They did. And amazingly enough my heart rate started to go up from there.
The rest of the day is a wash for me, my mom and Dr. Gmora said I was a textbook case and he was very pleased with how everything went. He said it couldnt have gone better.
Day After Surgery:
I was up and about most of the day. It hurt at first but I knew from the 2 c-sections I had if I just kept at it it would eventually start hurting less and less. The nurses were all very pleased with how I was doing and all had smiles on their faces when seeing me up and walking. I dont recall most of this day either altho I was off the heavy meds now I was still i pain and as you may know pain = memory loss. My mom brought my daughter and husband up to see me that afternoon which is also when they taught me how to give myself the needle in my belly. Right after that trying to get fluids in I had my first "attack" is what im calling it of drinking to fast, wow it did not feel good at all! Loved seeing my daughter and hubby it was so super nice! I missed them in the span of a day. Dr. Gmora came in to see me everyday and make sure I was doing good. The last time he came I said I want to go HOME, and he casually said ok, I believe you are ready.
Home Day:
so home day was a great day for me, Dr. Gmora came in first thing to see me. He first told me I was doing the best on the floor that had the surgery the same day as me and that i could be discharged this morning. When he came in I had my feet up on my suitcase and was dressed to go home, he thought that was pretty amuzing. I was discharged at 10:30 am thank god!
Conclusion:
So that is about it, all and all I had a great expierence there and would recommend St. Joes Hamilton to anyone who asked me where to go. Dr. Gmora has the best bed side manner iv ever come across (my family doc has some awesome bed side manner as well) so I feel pretty lucky and cant wait for this ride of my life to take place. I went in weighing 243 the night before surgery and today i weight 237.8 so 6 pounds in 4 days. I cant wait for the next 3 months to come!!!

I had a whole thing written out and then my daughter came over and hit a button and now its all gone. It was a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me through this entire process and even a thanks to the ones who voiced why they didn't think i should go through with this. I know myself and I know who I want to become, it'll be me just a newer revised much happier person and i cant wait to live that life.
