Good News and Bad News

Aug 08, 2008

Well lets start with the bad news.  The bad news is that the Psychologist is booked until Oct. 14 so I am stuck until Oct. 14.  I really can't do anything until then so I guess I just have to wait.

The good news.  I am almost done with everything post-op.  I met with the dietian and physical trainer.  It was a seminar so you get to do it with everyone and it was fast and interesting.  It took about 3 hours.  I saw my PCP today and got my EKG there then went downstairs to do all the blood work and chest xray.  It was really fast.  They ordered my sleep study and that will be done next Friday I think.  I am not worried about it I have 2 long months to do it.

Well this experience is going to be a good one and I shouldn't rush it but I am a person like that.  When I want something I want it now.

Well I will comment back when I reach another milestone but I don't think it will be for awhile.

Asia

I am APPROVED!!!

Aug 04, 2008

I can't believe it my surgeons office just called me and told me that they got approval from my insurance company.  I had my appointment Friday afternoon.  They submitted it to my insurance company this morning around 9 am I am guessing because that is the time they open and at 11:30 this morning I got the bestest call ever.

I go in on Thursday to see the dietian.  I have to call my PCP to order the blood work and everything else.  If you could only see the  that is on my face right now.  I still can't believe how easy the insurance was.  Now I have to lose all that weight I had to put on to get approved.

So today I went for my first walk in a long time.  It was about 2 miles.  I walked at that beach park at my lunch hour.  I took 2 - 4lb weights with me.  I looked pretty stupid walking with the weight lifting them over my head.  I was thinking I better start toning my arms now so that I won't get bat wings.  When I got to the end of the park there is a picnic area.  I went inside and did 50 lunges and 50 squats in increaments of 10.  I haven't been so motivated for a long time.  Even thou my surgeon said I don't have to shrink my liver believe me I will do anything for this operation to go easy.

Ok will check in on Friday after my orientation.

1st Doctor's Appointment

Aug 01, 2008

Well I had my meeting and I was so excited. My weight was 239 this morning when I got up and to be at BMI 40 I 1st to be at 241. So I had a big lunch, grabbed my two pound lead weight and put it in my bra and drank 50 oz of water right before my appointment. Well when I got weighed I was at 246 lbs and then they did my height. Now I am 5' 5.5" tall been this tall since the 7th grade. Well I put my feet together and bent at the knees a little and bam 5'4.75" she said that she is writing down 5'4" that makes my BMI at 42. I was so excited. I know only the light weight board would understand why I did this and I had to pee so bad. When I was filling out the paperwork I went to use the bathroom and to take out the weight. I hid it behind the toilet in the main lobby. Ok I am too funny I know. Well I finished doing the paperwork and the Dr. came in. I asked my questions and he asked what surgery I wanted to do. Well then he had to do a stomache exam to look for hernias and muscle and other things. At that time I was so excited I got rid of the weight. Well he told me I was a perfect canidate for any WLS for lap band or RNY. So the are going to send out my paperwork to the insurance company next week. I have a meeting next Thursday with the dietian and the Phychologist is booked until September. So they told me that I have 6 weeks to get all my test done by my PCP, my chest X-Ray, Electrocardiogram and a sleep study. The coordinator told me that they want me to start loosing weight now so when I talk to the dietian she will go easy on me becasue she will know that I am in it for the long haul. Well I will keep you guys all informed about my journey. Aloha, Asia

Insurance Benefits with HMSA

Jul 31, 2008

I just got of the phone for the third time with the insurance company.  I wanted to know exactly what was covered.  After hearing about another post about a $10,000. bill I got scared.  Here is the break down.

Qualifications:
1.  RNY and Lap Band only
2.  BMI >40 with a reason why. Note if surgeon just put weight loss that is not a reason.
3.  BMI 35-39 with two co-mos
4.  BMI >50 you can have a VSG.

As to my plan
1.  Insurance pays 100% for surgeon for operation
2.  Insurance pays 100% for Anestesiologist
3.  Insurance pays 100% for surgeon assistant
4.  Insurance pays 80% for hospital stay.

*** I still have to pay for a surgeon fee of $600.00 which includes a dietian, personal trainer (5 sessions), and follow ups visits with the surgeon.

I am just praying that the 20% that I have to pay is below $3000 or I have to answer to my dh.

First Meeting with Dr. Fowler is Scheduled

Jul 17, 2008

Well I just got a call back from Dr. Fowler's office. I have my appointment scheduled for Friday August 1st. I am so excited. She told me my BMI is ok right now because they round up however day of weigh in I will use my fishing line weight. I want to be very careful. She said that will be my first and last weigh in before surgery. So I guess you will not here from me for 2 weeks. Wish me luck at the weigh in. Until then I will continue to eat until I make the weight.

7/17/08 First Informational Meeting

Jul 17, 2008

This is my first blog that I have ever written so here goes.   Last night I went to an informational meeting at the Castle Hospital Wellness Center. There was so many people there. I am now positive that I want the RNY. Last night I turned in my PCP’s referral and now I have to get an appointment.    When I got home I started filling up all my paperwork there was about 10 sheet questionnaire. I did it all. My husband then looked at me and asked if I was really going to do it and I told him yes, I am. He said he really never notice how big I became. I told him thank you however I am fat and I am going to do something about it. He don’t know exactly what I am doing. He thinks it is just the lap band. What he don’t know won’t hurt.   This is a surgery that I am keeping to myself and of course you folks in OH land. My family is totally against surgery. I tried telling them 6 months ago that my PCP recommended me doing the lap band. He told me that I was nuts and I should just go on a diet and get moving. They mean well. My parents exercise everyday and so do my sister and brother. See they all live in the same house and extension to the house. I am the only one that don’t live there. I live about 20 minutes away with my husband and 5 children. I sometimes think that if I lived there too that I would go to the gym with them however with the five children as soon as I finish work, I come home, cook dinner and do chores. I don’t do chores I tell the children to do the chores. I make them pull their weight around here. Nothing is free.   Well today I am at a BMI of 39.7. 240 lbs. I need to gain 2 pounds so I ate for breakfast 2 sausage biscuits and an apple pie from McDonalds. I am like so full right now. I should be happy that I don’t have to do a pre-op diet.   Aloha everyone, Asia
