Hi Gina: Congratulations on your loss, trust me, it's well worth it. I had the same problem you did & I will be honest, it took almost five months to heal. My surgeon finally realized that a suture was infected deep inside & he pulled it out with a crochet hook. Not pleasent, but not bad. The best thing to do is keep it clean with Dial soap & peroxide.Hang in there if it doesn't heal quick!

Good Morning AMOS!!! I had a great checkup with the surgeon yesterday.. first post op visit.. I had lost 14 pounds in 16 days..not outstanding.. but at least a loss.. I am still battling the subcutaneous wound infection.. but I am feeling much stronger.. I am not needing my pain meds around the clock.. maybe twice during a 24 hour period now.. I had my retention sutures and all my staples removed.. and boy does that feel much better.. they were beginning to pull and itch quite a bit.. I have to be very careful because I have an open place in my incision that has to heal from the inside out.. thank goodness.. it is not the entire incision.. just a very small portion in the middle.. I am doing great according to the surgeon and am right where I should be.. as far as pain levels, healing, etc.. I have to return to see the surgeon next week.. due to this infection.. will let you guys know how things are then.. Take care. Hugs,

Hi Gang, I have had a minor setback.. a subcutaneous wound infection.. I am having a very smelly drainage from mid incision down to navel.. I have talked to the surgeon.. and I am on a strong broad spectrum antibiotic.. Clindamycin.. He wants the wound to drain.. and I have to clean it three times a day with peroxide.. told me to expect a good bit of drainage over the next two or three days.. I am running a low grade fever at times.. if that increases, the area around the incision becomes redder and angrier looking, or I think that things are not progressing like they should.. I have to give him a call and meet him at the office.. I am hoping that we are on top of this infection before it got way out of hand.. he isnt worried about peritoneal or deep abdominal infection at this point.. We are going to decide if I need other medicine as soon as he gets the final report from the cultures and sensitivities taken in the local ER yesterday.. Otherwise, I am tolerating my liquid diet, getting my daily walking in, doing my breathing exercises, and getting better.. I just hope and pray that this is a minor setback.. The surgeon said this type thing occurred in about 3 of every 100 surgeries he does.. so not all that often.. I hope everyone is all prepared for a great holiday and our friend, Maggie is doing great today after her journey.. Hugs,

Hi Amos, I am on the other side.. safely.. I am very sore and weak.. I am trying to conserve what little energy I have for moving about and walking around the house.. The surgery went well.. no complications.. and speedy recovery... I am able to move about a good bit better than I thought I would.. Thank you all for the prayers, phone calls, encouragements, and etc.. Especially thank you Carol Ford and Lavonne Golden.. my two special friends and angels.. Happy Holidays and hugs to all,

SHE SAYS TO TELL YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, SHE IS FINE, SHE WILL GO HOME TOMORROW AND THAT SHE IS WALKING QUITE A BIT PLUS HER OXYGEN LEVELS HAVE STAYED ABOUT 98 WHICH IS GREAT. OUR GIRL IS BOUNCING BACK JUST AS WE KNEW SHE WOULD, (GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS ND I KNOW WE HAVE ALL PRAYED HARD FOR HER AND I ASK YOU ALL TO CONTINUE THROUGH HER RECOVERY). MY SONS IS HOME HIS ELBOW SURGERY WENT WELL IT WAS A 2 HOUR ORDEAL THE BONE THAT HAD BROKEN OFF WAS ABOUT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER IT WAS AS THICK AS IS WAS BIG AROUND. THE DR SAID IT WAS SO INFLAMED HE COULD NOT SEE EVEN WHERE THE BONE HAD BROKEN OFF FROM. WELL ENOUGH FROM ME HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL AND I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
