Almost 10 Weeks

Jul 27, 2009

Well it will be 10 weeks Wednesday and the weight loss has slowed some (likely due to my extreme laziness and bad eating) but I went to Pennington's today and bought 2X and 3X instead of 5X and 6X and they fit well!! Woo Hoo

Got in on the end of season - 50% off the lowest ticketed price so got 3 tops, a pair of jeans, a pair of capri's and a pair PJ's for $90 - otherwise I wouldn't have bought anything as I will be getting smaller!!

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the hot weather-Back up to 30C later this week!!

It's sure easier to take 80 some lbs lighter though!! :)

Almost 8 Weeks Out - Am I Stalled?

Jul 13, 2009

Well here I am almost 8 weeks out and I am going nowhere, I am down 25 lbs since surgery , eating 800-900 calories, at least 60 gr daily of protein and drinking lots of water. But the scale does not move!! Grrrr

I assume that my problem is that my lazy self must do some more exercise, apparently sitting on your butt does not do a thing for you even with surgery.
We have been doing a little traveling and are heading to the lake to camp this week so I'm sure my sister will get me walking out there.
Camping is much easier this year I must say, I fit into the dinette and even getting in and out of the trailer is much simpler. Woo Hoo!!
We just got back from a family reunion on my husbands side and there were many who haven't seen me for 2 years - I am down 100 lbs from then so they were a lttle taken aback.
Once you assure them that you are not dying and are actually healthier it goes OK.

I am getting smaller though and I am going through clothes like a mad woman, I just think oh at least this must look better and someone says " Gee those pants are sure baggy in the butt" wow what a problem !!

Hope everyone is doing well and that I have a better number to report next month!!

4 Weeks Out

Jun 18, 2009

Hi everyone, just wanted to update now that another week has passed.

My energy seems to be lessening, could be I did overdo it at first or it also might be the heat, I never did do well in the heat and we have finally got so warm weather.

Other than that things seem to be going well and I think that 250 is gone now, I was 247 this morning - that is down 70 from my first consult and 15 since surgery.

I saw my PCP this week and he is very pleased with my blood work so I am good to go until August.

My only problem is the one that seems to plague a lot of us and that is the bowels, the surgeon gave me lactulose which I can use when I'm in trouble but I would love to have something I could take on a daily basis so I don't have to get in a mess. Suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Anyway I hope everyone is doing well and I'll update next week..

Bye for now.

Three Weeks out and Doing Fine

Jun 12, 2009

Well it seems that I have passed the 3 week mark of this journey and I am going to say that I am now down 67 lbs from my September start date. Woo hoo.

I am hovering at the 250 lb mark - I had one sighting of 249 but then it was gone! Maybe next week, it doesn't seem that long ago that I was trying to make 270 go away!!

I am feeling very well, but having to answer a lot of questions, many people had no idea that I had surgery. With my sisters illness etc. they just thought I was stressed and losing weight or something I guess.
But I have had mostly a positive response. The only people who say duragatory things seem to be the ones that would probably benefit from doing the same thing!!  Interesting.

After we came home from a meeting last night, my husband said "Pretty soon you'll be the smallest one of all" I won't be, ever, but it was nice to know that he sees a difference.

Anyway just an update to those who are keeping track of me, take care and keep up the good work.

June 5 - Update

Jun 05, 2009

Saw Dr Farries today for my post op check up. He said my tummy looked like I'd lost a knife fight!!

He weighed me and prescribed a laxative as that was really the only problem I had to discuss with him, so we'll see how that works.

I now weigh 255 lbs, down, 78 from my highest weight, 62 since September and 7 since surgery!!

I go back to see him August 31.

Things are still going well, just having a few issues, when I forget to eat slowly!! I get reminded very quickly!

Happy Day - May 30th

May 29, 2009

Happy Saturday everyone!!

I got home a week ago today after gastric bypass May 20th. It has been quite a week! I think I spent most of it on OH reading, lurking and posting. lol Thanks to those of you who took the time to message me and answer my questions!!

I started this journey at 317 or so although I had at one time been 333, the day of surgery I weighed 262 and of course gained 5 lbs of fluid.

Today I weigh 259!!! I know it's alot but the point is that it is actually going the right direction!

I was beginning to think that I was doing something wrong, hence the lurking, fretting and wailing (well inside my head anyway!!)

Anyway - hope everyone has a great Saturday, I am off to the arena to watch my grandson play hockey!!

Yes I do live in Canada - the frozen north and yes he is obsessed and playing spring hockey (but he's only 9 years old - and he could be doing a lot worse things)

Have a great week and hopefully I won't be so obsessed this week!

Feeling so Good it's Scary!!

May 27, 2009

I am having a great week, I'm figuring out how to keep track of everything, think I'll use thedailyplate.com, even my vitamins are listed on there!

It looks like I can even export it and print it off to keep a permanent record.

My GP took me off 7 meds yesterday when I saw him so he had a big smile on his face. Me too!

Of course I'm still on full fluids but feel like I'm doing well, managing to get 60+ gms of protein without too much struggle.

My troubles might  happen when I try to add "real" foods.

I can drink water OK - just have to go slow.

I'm using some protein powders and mixes that the surgeon's assistant recommended, also making everything with milk to add a little more protein..

My pouch seems to like warm, so I make myself sit down and sip a nice cup of tea every so often.

I have so much energy and ambition that I keep thinking they must have done some transplants!! This is not like me!

I just don't want to slam up against a brick wall so I am trying to take it easy.

Here is a Wow Moment for you!!

May 26, 2009

Well, when I went to the hospital last Wednesday morning for my gastric bypass I was taking nine (9) prescribed meds to help me deal with hypertension, high cholesterol, borderline diabetes etc. etc. etc.

I was discharged Saturday morning and have been doing well since.

This morning I saw my GP because the surgeon discharged me with instructions to take another med for acid reflux and one anti-ulcer med.

My GP actually took me off seven (7) of my previous meds!!
So I am now taking four (4) instead of the eleven (11) I would have been taking!!
Two new ones from the surgeon, and two of the old ones, as my BP is still a bit high.

Of course I need to keep daily track of my blood pressure, see him often and get regular blood work done.

He expects that I will be able to get off more meds yet, but for now, WoW

Next appointment, with the surgeon, June 5th.

For now, I'm just soaking it all up!

May 23 - Its Done and I am Home!!!

May 23, 2009

Well everyone. believe it or not I was in on Wednesday morning and had laproscopic gastric bypass and I am home with my dear husband 78 hours later.

I feel well but I get very tired, I am not interested in food too much but will try and eat a bit every 3 or 4 hours until I get organized.

The surgery went very well and the staff could not have been better to me.

I am up about 5 lbs from when I went in but they tell me that it is fluid which will go away quickly.
I see the surgeon in 2 weeks and will update again then.

For now I will have a sleep.

Five Sleeps Until My Surgery

May 15, 2009

It's coming - only 5 more sleeps. I am getting excited, especially when I read such positive posts from other
OH ers.
My life has been pretty stressful lately, my little sister passed away on May 6th - she's been ill for a long time and since April 5th, had been hospitalized.
We had the funeral on Tuesday and I did the eulogy.
My Mom & my sisters & I helped care for her while she was in palliative care and it was tough, she suffered and was in pain a lot of the time but somehow I managed to maintain my weight loss through all of that so I am hopeful that once I have my surgery I can get this job done.

I think she will be watching over me and rooting for me to get this job done too.

I have lost 53 lbs since September and some crazy amount of inches like a total of 25 or 26 so far.
My friend measured me yesterday while we raided her closet for some smaller things for me to wear, my 5X & 6X are just too big now.

Anyway I just felt like blogging a bit, I had posted and asked for prayers for Cathy and that seemed to help at the time so wish me luck next week and watch for me back, letting you know how it went!!

Good luck to all of you.
