I am down to 8 days. And unfortunately I have gained some weight. I think I am up to about 215 now. I have been talking with so many people on Obesity help.com and their surgeons are putting them on liquid diets the week before surgery. I just called the nutritionist to see if they want me to do anything like this and they told me no just to watch my portions and try not to gain weight; Yeah, easier said than done. There is so much junk in this house. I need to get rid of it, but then my kid will be really bummed that it’s not here. Not that he needs it either. I think next week before surgery I am going to move it all so it is out of my view, put it back in the basement, so if Joey wants it he’ll have to go down there to get it.

I think I need to try and put myself on sort of a liquid diet and try to just eat very little and drink a ton of water. I am just always so hungry. I really hope that the band will take away my hunger. I pray that this works for me. I want to loose this weight so badly! I can’t believe I am going to have my surgery in only 8 days. This is just so amazing. I thought it would never come. But it’s almost here. I am lucky enough to have two angels too; Deb Cogan and Felicia Johnson. They are going to check up on me and see how I’m doing after surgery.

Maybe I’ll post and see if some of those that are the liquid pre-op diet will be willing to fax their diets to me so I can see what they are doing. I’ll keep you posted.

15 days and COUNTING! I am so excited I could SCREAM! I went in to have my pre-op testing done today. First I went into the Bariatric Surgery Center , where I met with Marcy. She weighed me in, I’m up to 213.9. Then she went over my chart with me. Told me that I’d be meeting with nutritionist next.

I met with nutritionist who gave me the post-op diet plan and told me that I should really try to get myself to only eat three meals a day and no snacking in between meals, which I have been doing a lot of lately. She wants me to really try and train myself now to eat like I will post –op; 3 healthy meals a day, small bites, take my time to eat 20-30 minutes per meal, no drinking with meals or for 45-60 minutes after a meal. That is not easy! My son was with me and he told her all of my dirty little secrets; Naughty little boy; although I was being honest with her.

I then went to
University Hospital where I met with someone from the Anesthesiology team. She went over my history with me and told me the usual “can’t eat or drink after …” They had me fill out forms and sign others. Then the nurse cam in took my vitals and some blood work and sent me on my way.

I have to be there on the 13th at
. My surgery is at . Boy I hope the surgeon gets his sleep that night. : ) I’m not worried. I know I will be in good hands. The hospital is one of the best in Central NY and my surgeon is a well seasoned surgeon and he will have the assistance of the proxy there. I think it’s kind of cool that I will be his very first Lap-Band patient ever. So the count down begins. Two weeks from tomorrow. Oh yeah and they did tell me that I will be staying overnight; which is good since I will here by myself anyway. My friend Laurie is going to take me to the hospital and bring me home the next day. I just need to get someone to take care of the dogs for me.

So I’m all set, here’s the home stretch!

I am down to 16 days. I am starting to really get excited now. I have my pre-op testing tomorrow. I meet with the Bariatric Surgery folks first where I will hopefully get some information to prepare me for right after surgery. I am hoping to get the list of what I am allowed to have as far as food and drink goes right after surgery. Then off to the hospital I go. I will have some tests done there and I will meet with the anesthesiologist. I really am getting excited.

I called the bariatric center today as I had not heard from them as far as scheduling goes. I was told by Dr. Simon that the surgery date was July 17 but that I would hear from scheduling to confirm. I spoke with Debbie and she said the 17th did not sound right. So she checked Dr. Simon’s surgery schedule and apparently the surgery is scheduled for July 13th. I am glad it moved up but I really would have preferred the 17th. I have to get my sister to take Joey for me for the week because Gene will be away on business that week. So I will have to go through this surgery completely alone. No one will be there for me. I will have to drive myself to the hospital and drive myself home and take care of myself for several days until Gene and Joey get home on Sunday night. What a bummer. Gene is bummed because he can’t be there for me. But he has to teach in Boston that week. It’s going to be a bit lonely. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get an angel who will call me when I get home to see how I’m doing. Although my honey Gene and my baby Joey are already my angels.

Weighed in at 211.6 pounds
I Finally have a tentative surgery date! I met with the surgeon today who said he's pretty sure the surgery date is July 17th. But he said the schedulers will call me with the For Sure date. I am so excited. It will be almost 2 months before my wedding date which will be way cool. I wanted to have my surgery by the end of May, but oh well. I am just so happy that it is actually going to happen! I am also so glad that I have the support of my wonderful fiancé Gene. I am so blessed to have him in my life.

I finally received some good news. I received a telephone call yesterday from the bariatric center. They want me to come in to meet with Dr. Simon on Monday. Apparently, the proctor situation has been taken care of and they are going to be able to give me a date. The woman I spoke with was not able to give me any ideas as to when it may be, but hey I am one step closer. I can tell you that I am ready to start calling other providers if I don’t get a date on Monday. I really want to have this surgery as soon as possible. Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll have a date at the very beginning of July. This way my fiancé will be home from his month long business trip and can be here for me but also so that I will have two months of weight loss before my wedding! I can only hope and pray! I’ll keep you posted!

I am a bit frustrated. I have no clue when I will be able to have my surgery; obviously not by the end of May. I will be having my surgery with Dr. Howard Simon, who has never performed this surgery before. So we have to wait for them to get in a proctor who can assist Dr. Simon in the procedure. There are three of us awaiting the surgery. We’ll all have it on the same day.

The concern is the follow up.

Will Dr.
Simon be able to properly administer and monitor my fill? I just want to have this surgery. I feel like this is never going to happen!

I just got a call from the bariatric surgery center; more bad news. I have to change surgeons. I will now be seeing Dr. Howard Simon. Apparently, Dr. Munshi is no longer scheduling surgeries for lap bands, so I have to see someone else. I have an appointment to meet Dr. Simon on Monday. I will tell him my plight. I am seeking employment and will probably loose my current insurance once I start my new job (when I find one). I need to have this surgery soon because of the insurance issue and because with starting a new job it will be tough to tell a new employer “hey by the way I am going to be out of work for surgery right after you hire me.”

Hopefully he will move things along for me quickly. Hopefully she will get approval from my insurance company quickly since they approved me for the surgery very quickly as well. I am really bumming about this.

I had my consultation at the gastroenterologist at this morning. I learned that I have to have an esophageal motility test. I have an appointment on May 8th to have this done. Once the results are in then the Bariatric surgery center can schedule my surgery date. As with the consult, I will call each day to see if there is a cancellation so I can get in sooner. Hey, it saved me 16 days on the consult! Can’t hurt to try. I would REALLY like to have my surgery by the end of May if at all possible.
