5 months & feeling great

Nov 11, 2008

I am progressing quite well. After five months, I am down about 80 since before surgery. Since the actual surgery date, I am down about 70 pounds. I enjoy my workouts, even though I would like to be doing other things sometimes. Working out constantly has been keeping me focused.

I am trying some new foods, but not many. I still don't eat bread, pasta/noodles, or anything fried. I am still on a protein regimen. I have a shake for breakfast and lunch ( with soy milk). Usually dinner consists of fish & veggies. I finally realized that I wasn't getting enough fruits and veggies in, so I started V8- VFusion drinks with has equal servings of both.

I am still working as a substitute teacher and working hard in grad school. Hopefully, I will be able to graduate next Fall. Other than that, not much has changed.

I forgot to mention how proud I am of our great nation for electing such a brilliant President!!!! Congratulations Obama! By the way, my 5 month updated pictures are from election day. I thoroughly enjoyed wearing the color blue that day.

Four months out!!!

Oct 09, 2008

Well I'm making steady progress. I'm looking good and feeling great!. I'm down about 75 lbs and I haven't been this size since middle school. It definitely feels great. I am enjoying my workouts more each week. For those of you tracking my progress, I'm adding a couple of new pix today.

Happy Birthday

Sep 30, 2008

Happy 23rd Birthday to Me!!!!! I am so excited to celebrate another birthday. This has been an incredible year for me. My health is restored and my life is on track. I have been delivered from high blood pressure and back pains. I have been strengthened and renewed. Finally I am energized and more capable of achieving my dreams. I have accomplished many goals since wls. First I was able to fit an old pair of jeans given to me by my bf. Then my weight dropped below his. Later I was able to walk 2 miles in 30 minutes. Now I am about ten pounds below my lowest weight in high school. Its seems as though every event now is monumental. I actually enjoy working out and I love that fact that I don't get tired as easily. In less than 2 weeks I will be 4 months post-op and I am already down 60 lbs. I feel truly blessed and I give all praises to God for a second chance.

3 months post op

Sep 10, 2008

Hey guys! I am officially 3 months post op and feeling great. I am down to 181 and it feels awesome. I haven't been this size since high school. I am down 67 lbs since deciding to have surgery and 54 lbs since surgery. I am juggling workout sessions with classes, work, and homework assignments. I am holding on to my goal of working out at least 3 days each week and I actually just finished my 3rd workout for the week. I may be able to get another 1-2 workouts in this week. I've posted 1 new pic. I'll try to have my friends take more of me this weekend so I can get them posted.

Where did July go????

Aug 12, 2008

I find it hard to believe that its been two months since surgery. I also can't believe I posted nothing in July. I can remember attempting a post that would not go through, along with some pix. But I'll try to get them up soon. I've been really busy with two jobs this summer, but I'm starting to slow down to prepare myself for another semester in school. That means I'll be spending more time on the computer and more time on this site!

Just to give an update, I have gone from about 250 to 235 pre op. Then from 235 (day of surgery) to 196. I feel really great and I've got a burst of energy. I've gotten tons of compliements and I've got my family eating healthy stuff along with me. I'm working hard to keep my committment working out. Each time I go to the gym, I'm able to do something new or for an extended period of time. It just feels great to be able to do these things.

As you can imagine, the clothes have gotten too big. I'm passing some things on to my mom as she loses weight and I'm getting clothes from my younger sister. Well I don't have my sd card, so I can't add pix today, but they will be up soon.

Getting Out

Jun 19, 2008

I certainly enjoyed my time indoors and out of the heat. However, as soon as the driving restriction was lifted I was on the road again. Everything is going great. I'm just pacing myself so that I can heal properly. In the next couple of weeks I will be working at the summer camp and taking swimming lessons, so I'm reserving my energy for that.

I have taken pictures, which I will post later. My scars aren't bad at all. I've even shown them to a friend and he wasn't shocked. I am moving around quite well and preparing for Youth Day at church this coming Sunday. I'll just have to steer clear of the cookout. But all is well.

I Made It

Jun 16, 2008

It was adventurous. Everything went well and I am pleased. I can only complain about one thing and I won't do that today (I'll save it for later). Everything went smoothly. My family visited me at the hospital and it was really great. At home my family has been taking such great care of me that I almost want to cry! Everyone is helping out.

Well about the surgery, it took place Monday morning @ 10 AM. By 4 PM I was awake and talking to my parents in my room. Later that day I was walking with a nurse. The following day, I had the upper GI test, which went well and I started the protein shakes later in the evening. On Wednesday, I had more protein shakes and was discharged around noon. The ride home was about 45 minutes and the potholes did not bother me at all. I slept very well. The meds were great for pain and bloating. Whenever I felt constipated I would just walk more and things would start moving, so exercise is key.

Friday was the last day that I have taken pain meds. I have been doing great! I can almost do anything. I just can't laugh:) Laughter brings on pain so I have been keeping it all inside. Its been 7 days so the driving restriction is over and I just had to hit the road today. I bet you all are wonder how the weight loss is progressing, well I'm down about 15 pounds so far. I think thats courtesy of the protein shakes I purchased. I have to go out and get some that not flavored so that I can tolerate it more. Well until next time, I'm still working on me.

Pre-Op Appointment

Jun 03, 2008

Yeah boy!!!! I'm done with pre-ops. I finally got everything out of the way. I'm thrilled. Dr. Clark said my lab results are good and he is pleased with my progress. I've lost about 17 pounds since I met him about 2 1/2 months ago. I didn't have many questions for him. I just wanted to know how soon I should start swimming because I'm going to be taking lessons in the end of this month. To be on the safe side I should wait 3 weeks, but he said I could try after two weeks. However, I can not stay in the water any longer than 15 minutes at a time to avoid softening the skin around the incision.

I had orientation at the gym today and I learned how to properly use the equipment and I got set up with a balanced work out plan with cardio and strength training. I can feel a difference already.

I've got my support team together and we are all ready. The only issue now is that everyone wants to take me out for the last meal. I'll have to have mine on Saturday, but I haven't been a big eater since I made up my mind about the surgery so I will eat light. But I must try something that I won't be eating post op. Until June 9th, I'm out!!!!

Back in the Gym

Jun 01, 2008

I did it! I finally got back in the gym on Saturday. I've only been back one day and it started out rough. I got off the hard stuff and stuck to the machines I was comfortable with, and things got much better. I was a little skeptic. I didn't think I would spend much time there because it was the first time I tried going to the gym without family or friends. I knew that no one else was interested so I decided that I would have to do it alone. It turned out to be much easier than I had thought.

I was able to work out for about an hour. I felt great afterwards. I went out to see a movie and then to a barbecue. It was an amazing day full of family and friends. But then came Sunday morning. Everyone said I'd feel the pain the next day and I certainly did. My legs were a little weak yesterday. But today, things are even worse. I had to climb stairs at the high school I'm subbing at today and I really feel the burn now. But I gotta fight through it, because I will be back in the gym tomorrow before my pre op clearance appt with Dr. Clark.

Pre op testing done

May 28, 2008

I am thrilled to be so close to the finish line. I had pre op testing today and everything is good. Also I started my gym membership today. Hopefully, I'll be working out this weekend. My surgery is scheduled for 10 AM, so I don't have to arrive at the hospital until 8. That works out fine for me. I have to travel about 40 minutes to the hospital, I didn't really wanna be leaving at 4 AM. The last thing before surgery is a pre op visit with Dr. Clark (surgeon) next Tuesday. I'm trying to work and make as much money as possible before surgery and that is working out well. I read the stories about to what to bring to the hospital and I think I will wait to pack. I tend to over pack; I'll start with one bag for the weekend and end up with a suitcase or two tote bags and a duffel bag. I will definitely it to a minimum. I know I'll want my laptop, pillow, maybe a blanket, toothbrush and slipper socks.

I'm happy that my mom will be there to support me and I am trying to convince a couple of skeptic friends to come by and join us. I'll let you guys know how that turns out. Also I'll be sure to take some pre op photos before the big day.
