Brent Steward Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

I had my initial consultation with Dr. Steward and I was very impressed. He answered all my questions and even answered questions I didn't know I had. I took my son with me and he commented about the time Dr. Steward took to make sure we both understood the procedure. Dr. Steward talked to us, not at us like so many physicians will do. He answered all my questions honestly and didn't try to pull the wool over my eyes. I look forward to a long-term relationship with Dr. Steward and his staff.rnrnUPDATE: Well, I had my surgery and am still impressed with Dr. Steward. I didn't get to speak with him before the surgery because of a scheduling mix-up but he did make sure I spoke with him afterwards. The surgery went off without a hitch and my recovery was almost eventless. Dr. Steward and his staff remain wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone.

My surgeon is very involved in the weight loss support group and does the informational mtgs monthly. He acts genuinely interested in the surgery and his patients. He takes his time and answers all my questions never seems to try to hurry me through, very supportive of my wt. loss. I highly reccommend him. Has probably done close to 800-900 of the RNY and lap band procedures. Office staff very helpful and will find the answers for you if they don't have it immediately. I rate this office A++++. Barb c.
(I have no negative input as I am totally satisfied with everyone in the office)

Slipped band replaced on 5/9/2005:
Dr. Steward is a wonderful person and a great surgeon. He gave me every confidence that he was going to take care of my slipped band situation and get me out of the funk I was in. His follow up care is excellent, and he never 'talks down' from his position - he treats his patients as equals and listens to all concerns. His staff is stellar as well - his nurse Rachelle, in particular. She is always available via email or phone and responds quickly. I have been so happy & healthy in the months since Dr. Steward replaced my band.

Info about my first surgeon, Dr. Vincent Frering:
July 2002: Through my research, I decided that Dr. Vincent Frering was one of the most skilled adjustable gastric band surgeons in the world, and that he was using the best band available. This was my opinion from the research I did. Dr. Frering had done over 3,000 AGB surgeries, and he helped design the Midband to prevent some of the complications that come up with other bands (e.g., Lap-Band, Swedish Band). I had a wonderful experience in Lyon and recovered from surgery very quickly (was walking around Lyon the very next day!). I felt so good about choosing Dr. Frering--his skills are undeniable and he is a very nice person as well.

Update April 2005: My Midband slipped. In hindsight, I think that the Midband hasn't been around for long enough to conclude that it is a "better" band than any other band. Also in hindsight, I think it is preferable to get banded with a band that is approved for use in the United States. Getting aftercare (e.g, fills) in the U.S. is more difficult with a non-FDA-approved band. Good follow-up care is of paramount importance with the band!!! I can't emphasize this enough!!!

I first seen Dr. Steward at a seminar that he requires all of his patients/potential patients to attend. I was impressed with his honesty and willingness to answer all questions. When I met with him at his office personally for the first time, I was equally impressed. He has a very friendly staff, and he came in sat down and we just talked. He has a wonderful bedside manner. I am excited he will be my surgeon. I have read and heard lots of wonderful things about Dr. Steward and it helps me be at even more peace about my decision to have this life changing surgery.

I liked Dr. Steward from the time of our first appointment. He was very caring and non-judgemental. He doesn't have an aftercare program to speak of. He just said to come in and get a fill when I need one. His group does have a meeting once a month that you can attend. I'm afraid I've been very lax about that. Overall Dr. Steward is a straight-shooter and I like him very much. He saved my life.
